Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

besides losing internet connection, some apps require 'force stop' and 'clear cache' in order to use them after it's turned off or a different input is used.  the two that always screw up this way are Sling TV and WatchESPN.    I have a another Sony TV at our home in FL and it has exactly the same problems.  i recently bought a Roku-TV for our den.  it is flawless.  every connection, every app works exactly the way one thinks they should.

solution.  return your Sony TVs, add reviews to CNET, Amazon and Best Buy and buy Roku or anything other than Sony.

Hi wdonbrown,

Welcome and thank you for considering SONY Community!

We're sorry to hear about this. However, in order for us to better assist you, may we have the exact model number of your TV?

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

Hi Ron,  I'm happy to give you model numbers but to speed things up, please take some time and read throught the pages of similar complaint.  Hopefully you'll see that the next steps you are likely to recommend from some FAQ sheet the company issues have not helped at all.  None of them (check latest update, reset TV, be  sure all apps are updated, etc ); none of them has solved the problem.  Unless you recommmend something new, we're just wasting bytes and time.

Purchased from Best Buy in Reno Nevada 6/26/17
Sony 55inch TV  XBR-55X700D

Purchased from Best Buy Lakewood Ranch FL 11/28/16

Sony 65inch TV XBR65X850D

Can these TVs be returned?

Thanks,

Don

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

I unfortunately purchased the XBR43x800D in April of this year.  I originally used it wireless.  Every morning I have to wait at least 1 minute for it to connect to the internet.  It also would drop internet intermittently throughout the night. So I ran wires to all of my devices so that Wireless would not be an issue.

Still the Sony takes minutes to connect to the internet every morning.  I also own an LG tv and 2 other TV''s and they connect immediately after turning them on.

I just got off the phone with Sony Product Support and She told me that my TV is working fine, and that is the way Sony Tv's work.

This is unacceptable. She says that the TV has to "reboot" everytime I turn it on.  I tried to explain the the expert that the tv is not fully powering off when I hit the power button on the remote. I also explained that the wired cable is being sent a stay alive ping by the router so that it would not have to reconnect every time.

She told me that the tv is fine and that I will just have to get used to it.

If this is true I will never NEVER buy another Sony product again. This tv is the biggest pain. Not only does it take time to connect, if it sees the cable at all, but it still loses internet connection intermittently.

I need a real Sony Specialist to address this please.

Thank you.

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

I finally figured that time delay out myself. Would have been good to have in the manual. Oh wait.
There wasn't one. Have to go online for that frustration.  I can absolutely back you up on the TV NOT needing to reboot
when you turn it on. I have a 3D Sony (if they stopped just including that capability)
And as frquently as I get to watch 3D (which is sad as the 3D is awesome) the glasses aren't
linked and won't linked. So I UNPLUG the TV so it'll reboot. Then I can link the glasses.

I am sorry for the frequency in which your TV drops the wifi and now the internet.

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

Hi All,

Thank you for considering the SONY Community!

We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. In relation to the internet connection issue with your TV, let's manually set the IP address to isolate the issue.

To manually set the IP address of your device, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the following IP information from your computer.
    • IP address or IPv4 address
    • Subnet Mask
    • Default Gateway

Note: If you are already connected to the internet, the IP information can also be obtained from the network connection status of the device.

  2. On your remote control, press the HOME or MENU button.

Note: The network settings of your device varies on the model being used. For model specific details, check the manual. $Manual

  3. Select Setup or Settings.
  4. Select Network.
  5. Select Network Setup.
  6. Depending on how the device is connected to your network, select either Wired or Wireless.
  7. Select Manual or Custom.
    • If these options are not available, an IP address cannot be manually set on your model.
    • For secured wireless setup, enter a Network security key to display the IP address and Proxy server setting screen.
  8. Enter the IP information for the device obtained in Step 1.
    • IP address: The IP address should be the same, except for the last number in the four-number sequence. Change the last number to a number higher than the original, but less than 254. For example, if the IP address shown on your computer is 192.168.0.5, enter 192.168.0.105
    • Subnet Mask: Enter the Subnet mask exactly as attained from the computer.
    • Default Gateway: Enter the Default Gateway exactly as attained from the computer.
      • Use 8.8.8.8 for the Primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the Secondary DNS.
      • Devices don't use a proxy server. Select NO if prompted to use a proxy server.
  9. Select Save and Connect to establish a network connection.

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

YES! It’s the internet direct interfering with Wifi. Turn it off in Network Setup and WiFi connection will work

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

An earlier post suggests the problem of losing WiFi connection is related to WiFi Direct being turned on, and that CERTAINLY was my experience. After I turned on WiFi direct for the (pathetic, by the way) Photo share app, I started having problems. Suspicious, so when I saw the post above I turned WiFi direct off in network settings— and all is good. Thanks community!

Re: Why does smart tv lose internet connection after shutdown?

[ Edited ]

I have recently purchased a Sony XBR75X900E and have the same issues everyone is talking about.

I am hard wired and have gone as far as to assign a manual IP address and setup IPV6 access so under the "network status menu, everything comes back perfect.

But every time I turn off the TV and turn it back on, poof no internet and I either have to redo all the settings or go into the about menu and restart the TV and then put in the network settings again.

I can't fathom how Sony has ignored or allowed such a glaring bug go unfixed for this long. Especially for a TV that is almost purely internet based.
