4:3 aspect ratio for Sony Alpha 7 series cameras

by gebseng Enthusiast on ‎02-08-2017 12:55 PM

It would be great to have an aspect ratio of 4:3 for stills, and not only 3:2 and 16:9.

4:3 is a classic aspect ratio, especially for fields like architectural photography. Also, images shot in portrait orientation tend to look more harmonic in 4:3.

best,

Since changing the sensor size is impossible, let me add that previewing that crop in the EVF, and perhaps tagging the RAW file so Capture One would recognize it would be GREAT. Also 1:1 would be great.

I wholeheartedly agree about this request.  I also think having frame guides for composing 5:4 images, or blacking the edges in the evf would be very helpful, for those of us that regularly print to 8x10 format.

I could not agree more!  I have just seen the aspect ratios of the new Sony A9 and it seems we are still stuck with the standard

3:2 (stills) and 16:9 (video).  Was really hoping that Sony would have listened here and implemented different aspect ratios in their new cameras

The new Fuji GFX is amazing in this regard.  4:3, 5:4, 7:6, 1:1, 3:2, 16:9 and 65:24 are all offered in the EVF.  Even better is that these can becaptured as jpegs whilst the full 4:3 information of the sensor is captured as the RAW.

Congrats Fuji, that is how it should be done!

Too bad. It seems that all cameras with a 4:3 sensor (like the fuji GFX) also offer 3:2, but not the other way round. I wonder why.
