SRS-X11 speaker cuts out unexpectedly and repeatedly

I use a single SRS-X11 bluetooth speaker, i.e. not in a pair, purchased a few months ago. It's paired to an iPhone or an iPad. Recently it has begun to cut out unexpectedly, just shutting down without warning; no flashing indicators that I've noticed. When powered on again it may continue working for quite a while before it quits again, so I don't think it's a battery issue. Or is it?

 

Any ideas?

Hi spjk,

 

This speaker can operate up to 12 hours. 

The time stated may vary depending on the ambient temperature or conditions of use.

 

Kindly fully charge the speaker first before use.

Recharging the speaker does not address the problem, as the shutdowns occur within a few hours of first use after complete charging. Battery depletion would not explain why the speaker continues to work for some time after the shutdown, when it's powered up again. There's some electronic problem, perhaps a defective battery.

I expected the Sony team would know what this is?
The auto-power off function kicks in every 20 mins.
Mine does the same thing. Someone suggested that you need to turn up the volume of the source; then use the speaker to reduce the volume.

Low volume of source isn’t picked up somehow.

Unfortunately this does not work if you want the speaker volume to be relatively low. The quietest setting is quite loud; especially if you are forced to turn up the source volume- Sony, you need a way to turn off this function, esp in ac mode.
