Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Thanks for the link. $3.00 that's not too bad free is better, but if they can provide the service guess I will give them a try when it's ready thanks again.

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Sony used to be my goto company for electronics. The trinitron was king of the hill for a long time. Their  products now offer no added value and the Dash proves they jumped the shark for anyone looking for a solid product and support.

Very disappointed in Sony for this and for the past 3 years the Dash has been losing functionality.  Hoping Chumby can save the device it is my favorite device..........Just tweeted #savethedash

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Received message tonight on dash that a control panel update was ready for install. I selected to install it later. Does anyone know what's going on with this "new" update notice?

Interesting an update,  was'nt aware of any upcoming update since they said they will stop all support. If anyone instills it please post what it does.

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Got the update notice this morning (before I heard/knew anything about the discontinuance).  I installed it, but can't see anything that has changed.

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

I checked the chumby site and I think the update is just a notice that shows up on the Dash of the end of support from Sony in July

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Yeah I saw the update this morning, tried to install it but received an error message. Will not try again as I had to do a reboot to have it working again, and if its just a notice talking about the end of support, well I already know that. Darn Sony!!!!!!!!!

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

[ Edited ]

Given the Dash's gradual decline in recent years, this news is not unexpected, but disappointing all the same.

It'd be nice if Sony could at least leave the units in a state where they would continue to provide a basic clock./alarm functionality, without having to rely on Sony's (presumably soon to shut down) authentication servers. I checked the forums because of the control panel update message - now I'm hoping it might be something to allow the units to continue functioning in some way, but I'll probably hold off allowing the install until theres some more info on what it actually does.

I'm also following the discussions on Blue Octy about something happening (presumably along the lines of what was done post-Chumby).

Funny you should mention Trinittrons - I'm still using one that I brought back in the 90's - that purchase alone did much to raise Sony's brand value in my eyes. Sadly, things like the handling of the Dash (and the removal of Linux from the PS3), have lowered that brand value somewhat...

Re: Sony Dash Discontinued - Refund/Credit?

Just an FYI there is a way to use it as a basic alarm clock without the media, I had to use it as such when Sony moved the Dash software to another server a few years back. My dash was down for about a week, but I was able to use it as basic alarm clock. I believe the info putting it in that mode is somewhere on the web, can't remember where I found it but it was somewhere on the web. It might of been Sony support
