Re: What does a blinking yellow light mean on the Sony BC-CS2A battery charger?

Hello Mike,

Welcome to the Sony community forums.

A blinking yellow light indicates one of two things, either the battery is not making good contact to the charging terminals in the Bay, or your  AA or AAA  Sony Ni-MH Battery is failing.     try unplugging the charger, and rub the Positive end plate terminals with a clean pencil eraser.  remove all but one of your batteries and test  the same battery in each bay if some blink and some dont,  its the batteries.  if all of your batteries blink regardless, its the contacts of your charger.

we do not currently have an instruction sheet for this charger.

Below is the only information it had on  the box when it was new. the positive and negative  polarities are marked within the bays for the charger.

This battery charger must only be used with Sony Ni-MH batteries in AA or AAA size, which are marked "rechargeable"

Rated Input: 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 3W

Rated Output: 1.4V, 400mAX2/160mAX2

Dimensions (Approx.): 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/8 in. (w/h/d) Color: Black

[ Edited ]

This is the worst kind of cancer. A battery charger that only charges its own batteries. Deep inside, I'm sure that Sony is disturbed by the fact that batteries must conform to AAA or AA sizes. They wish they could make their own proprietary sized batteries, but you know, batteries are by design, compatible with all devices. It's just a 1.5 volt AA or AAA battery. They're not allowed to make a special sized battery that you're forced to buy, unlike their PS Vita memory card. How'd that work out for you, Sony?

Some geniuses at Sony decided to take AA and AAA batteries, something inherently designed to be compatible with nearly every small electronic device, and make their chargers only compatible with their own batteries. It's just disgusting. Here I am like a total fool, trying to put rayovac and energizer batteries into a sony charger. Of course it doesn't work. I crushed my charger with a vice (proprietary screws!!! AUGH), and there's two microcontrollers inside to make this trick happen. Like, seriously? Why?

If your charger is blinking yellow, I suggest you throw it straight in the trash and get a proper charger that won't be such a picky brat.

Hello there, Liberty!

KimberlyS has stated in her post in this thread the following: This battery charger must only be used with Sony Ni-MH batteries in AA or AAA size, which are marked "rechargeable"

-----

So, you cannot use any other rechargeable batteries other than Sony Ni-MH batteries in AA or AAA size.

I signed up for an account just to upvote this reply.

When I was researching cameras, I posted on a camera forum specifically to research cameras that don't use proprietary cords. Now my camera won't charge, and all the posts here "make sure you use the cord that came with the camera." WTF. It's a USB cord! You know, UNIVERSAL serial bus port. And use of a universal, non-proprietary cord is one of the main reasons I bought this ****** thing.

I have no idea which usb cord came with the camera! I have tried half a dozen of the ones I have around the house, and none work with the camera. I'm still unclear if this is just standard wording they tell their customer support, or if for some reason they have done something to make their universal cord proprietary...? If it turns out that is the case I will NEVER BUY SONY AGAIN.

Hi daretoeatapeach,

Using non-Sony USB cables to charge the battery or transfer your files to the computer is possible, but we do recommend using the supplied USB cable to avoid any errors and ensure compatibility.

I posted a reply to your concern about charging the battery through this link
