About Me
  • I started working for Sony in 1995 as a Customer Service Representative. After 3 years I was promoted to a Product Specialist. At one time or another I've helped provide support for nearly all of Sony's consumer products: TVs, DVD players, Blu-ray Disc players, home theater systems, cameras and more. After a number of years doing telephone support I was promoted into my present position as a technical writer. Now I create, review, and manage support content for our knowledge base. My primary interest and current responsibilities revolve around digital imaging products like Handycam Camcorders and Cyber-shot & Alpha cameras. During my off-hours, I am a freelance photographer. Here is brief list of my favorite Sony products: Sony Internet TV powered by Google TV, Alpha Digital SLR Camera, PS3, Xperia ION smartphone, and the DVD Home Theater System.

Taking pictures runs in my family. My grandmother thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures of everything and everyone, and I’ve enjoyed photography for a number of years, myself. Even my daughter has recently discovered this delightful hobby. I'll use this blog to share some of my favorite photos, discuss some of the settings I use, and maybe provide a short story about the pictures, themselves... Thanks for visiting!

Every now and then you just happen to be in the right place at the right time and manage to grab that perfect shot. That is exactly what happened during a trip to Fort Myers Beach, one evening.

Natural Backlight and Silhouettes

Backlight is not always a bad thing. In fact, natural backlight can create vivid scenes with eye-catching silhouettes.

Fun with Fireworks!

Fireworks2.jpgIt's almost the start of a new year and there will be a lot of fireworks. If you have a camera with full manual controls, then you have the opportunity to capture some very unique shots. I figured I'd provide a few suggestions for photographing them.

Red, White or Blue Moon

Moon-Blue.JPG

Shooting photographs of the moon can be tricky. Because of the moon’s brightness, you need to make sure you have a fast enough shutter speed to prevent it from coming out overexposed – especially during a full moon. I’d also recommend you use a camera with a telephoto lens so you can get a decent, close shot. Once you master the basics, you can experiment with white balance and color temperature.

Fun with Lights

flyingsaucer.jpgCarnival rides at night are one of the things I enjoy shooting. I like to experiment with slow shutter speeds. Depending on the lighting and motion of your subject, slow shutter speeds can produce some pretty interesting effects.

Partial Color

Butler BridgeAfter many years, my family and I finally did some canoeing on the Watauga Lake in East Tennessee. Using the Sony DSC-HX30V camera and its partial color effects, I captured some interesting shots. I was able to filter out colors, bringing more attention to certain details in the pictures. This one of us canoeing under Butler Bridge is one of my favorites.
