NEW Viewfinder DVF-EL200

[ Edited ]

All,

The new Viewfinder, DVF-EL200 will be available next month. It is compatible with the F5, F55 by way of an adapter cable kit sold separately. This adapter kit is called CBK55AT.

CBK55AT

The CBK-55AT viewfinder cable and attachment provides a strong and flexible mount for the DVF-EL200 viewfinder to the PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 cameras. The attachment allows the Full HD viewfinder to be attached securely, quickly and easily to the camera for the optimal positioning. The unit also supports the viewfinder’s durable Lemo connector.

The DVF-EL200 Full HD viewfinder offers brighter OLED quality. The compact 0.7-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) viewfinder has the incredible clarity of 1920 x 1080 Full HD.

Thanks to the latest OLED technology, you get superb brightness of approximately 200 cd/m2, making it about twice as bright as the DVF-EL100

The latest high quality OLED panel aids the camera operator’s ease and comfort while focusing and framing. In addition to the improved OLED panel, The DVF-EL200 features more durability and usability with an improved eye distance measure sensor, rotary encoders for controlling brightness, contrast and peaking, a heavier and more comfortable dioptre ring, rigid LEMO connector and a quick-release system to detach the viewfinder from the camera

Key Highlights

  • 0.7-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD OLED panel

1920 x 1080 Full HD panel helps camera operators focus and frame their images comfortably and easily.

  • Brighter and higher contrast OLED panel

Thanks to the latest OLED technology, you get superb brightness of approximately 200 cd/m2, making it about twice as bright as the DVF-EL100, the previous PMW-F55/F5 viewfinder. OLED technology – a self-emitting technology – guarantees the highest contrast ratio. With no smear or blur, the viewfinder reproduces motion with high fidelity and makes it easy to focus the 4K image.

  • LEMO connector

The viewfinder connects to the F55 or F5 using its durable LEMO connector.

  • Heavy and smooth dioptre ring

The dioptre ring is heavy and smooth to make it easier to use. It also has a scale for adjustment.

  • Dust and splash resistance

The viewfinder is dust and splash resistant for more protection in the field.

  • Quick and easy attachment

The viewfinder is attached to the F55 and F5 using the CBK-55AT attachment (available separately). The CBK-55AT provides a quick and easy detachable system to remove the viewfinder from the camera.

  • Rotary encoder to adjust brightness, contrast and peaking level

The viewfinder has a rotary encoder and menu button on the inside. These can control brightness, contrast and peaking quickly and without having to open the camera menu display.

  • Improved eye sensor

The DVF-EL200 will automatically invert its OLED display when its proximity sensor detects your eye has moved away. The proximity distance is doubled compared to DVF-EL100 for improved responsiveness.

  • Separate viewfinder cable and attachment

In order to use the DVF-EL200 with F55 and F5, viewfinder cables and CBK-55AT attachment are required (available separately).

Regards

Peter

And the cable should have the newer connector from the advanced cable too Peter.

I bought this when it was first released and it is great.f5_rhs_cu.jpg

Re: NEW Viewfinder DVF-EL200

Peter,

Looks like a great product, some aspects of this are excellent (improved brightness and resolution, waterproofing) except:

1. Didn't it occur to all involved that if you're going to make a whole new EVF, give it the processing power to be able to drive LUTs in S&Q and Playback, and False Colour in slog3?

These are fundamental issues with the F5/F55: does this address them?

We all know it can't be fixed in camera: isn't the logical step to fix it in a new external product?

2. The "sticking out" VF connector was another fundamental flaw. Why doesn't this new cable have the right-angle connector that was introduced later to help alleviate this issue?

3. It's about twice the price of a competing product that has more features.

Re: NEW Viewfinder DVF-EL200

is there a plan for a sell-and-buy-back for the DVF-EL100 OLED Viewfinder?

Re: NEW Viewfinder DVF-EL200

Are there any plans to offer an adapter cable for the FS7?

While I wouldn't say no to a better VF for my F-55, the FS7 really needs a better viewfinder, stat.

I used one of the new Zacutos that allows you to use the FS7 viewfinder connector - client brought their camera on a shoot.  For some insane reason Zacuto decided not to use an adjustable diopter - apparently their regular cameraman has vision that's somewhere between me with my glasses and me without my glasses, and they didn't even know you had to change diopters...  Shot a whole day with the peaking cranked within an inch of its life hoping everything was in focus (all hendheld day of course)

Which is a longwinded way of saying every manufacturer makes mistakes that seem blindingly obvious to those of us who use the kit every day.

The only reason I'd replace my F-55 viewfinder is if there was one with LUTs built in to deal with the still-annoying LUT issues in highspeed and playback...   But I'd replace the FS-7 viewfinder in a hearbeat if I could have one that would at least let me be confident I'm in focus.

Re: NEW Viewfinder DVF-EL200

Does this viewfinder have a look around area ? And are camera tech details showing outside the frame viewing area   I read that the Venice camera will have a look around area but I can imagine that the F55/5 does not have that image on the sensor but it would be useful if all camera parameters apart from WFM are outside viewing area. I hated the original OLED evf and went with the LCD and installed an arri heated eyepiece on it and it works well for me so to update it will have to be something special.

in my opinion the best evf at the moment is the Arri MVF 1- I love having the flip out screen and assign buttons to set parameters and to view image when it is not possible to use the eyepiece. It retails for over £5000 in UK so would expect this new Sony to be less!
