I managed to corrupt certain parts of the OS and now USB and Wifi doesn't work.
My reader is on the latest 1.0.07 firmware and there isn't any rescue package made by the community for this firmware.
What I'm trying to do is reinstall the current firmware to replace the corrupted/incompatible files.
I've tried the Linux method of updating by copying "PRS-T1 Updater.package" to the root of READER partition then pressing HOME+MENU and powering on from shut down state but the reader doesn't (re)update.
I have tried hard resets, replacing the system partition with files from another firmware version, rescue packages but none of those solves the issue - probably due to kernel incompatibility across different firmware versions.
Can Sony Support help me to reinstall the firmware?

Hello,
I have the same problem with the latest firmware 1.0.07, I think that the only way to restore the reader is to obtain a set of the images of all the partitions from a fully working prs-t1 running 1.0.07 firmware. Unfortunately I'm not able to find this set of files.
Can someone help me?

Have you tried booting into recovery mode and fixing filesystem errors? http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/PRST1_Rooting_and_Tweaks#Fix_filesystem_errors_and_bad_blocks
It solved my problems ![]()

I had this exact same problem. My reader was on the 1.0.07 firmware, I rooted it, and then had some issues, so I restored it stupidly using the 1.0.05 restore package. After that the wifi stopped working, and the unit would hang when connected via usb. However I could still use a usb connection when running in recovery mode and get a serial terminal connection, so I could load files onto the sd card and then flash from them. However, like you, I found that firmware updates would not load.
After a lot of searching, I found this godsend:
http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/showthread.php?t=244173
Basically, I:
1: put the unit into recovery mode and got a serial terminal connection
2: remounted the sd card as writable:
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/mmcblk0p1 /initrd/mnt/sd
3: copy the entire internal storage:
dd if=/dev/mmcblk2 of=/initrd/mnt/sd/mmcblk2.img
4: removed the sd card, put it into my windows computer, made a backup copy, and edited mmcblk0.img with HxD, replacing all instances of "1.0.07.05070" with "1.0.03.11140", then copied the changed version back to the sd card.
5: put the sd card back into the prs-t1, got a revovery terminal again, and copied the sd image back
dd if=/initrd/mnt/sd/mmcblk2.img of=/dev/mmcblk2
6: restarted the prs-t1 and checked setup, whch now showed the firmware version as 1.0.03.11140
7: Tried again to update the firmware to 1.0.05 by copying the package file to the READER partition and restarting in recovery mode without the sd card and without the usb cable conneced.
It worked. I can now turn on wifi, and use the usb connection.
