Hi, Sartrism

Welcome to Sony Community!

We still do not have the details about the firmware updates. We recommend visiting the eSupport website for more updates: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DPTRP1&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=download#/down.... This website will be updated once the firmware update becomes available.

Given the small but dedicated group of users on this forum, it would be great if a Sony employee would start a new thread announcing the new firmware, once available.

That way we don't all have to keep checking the support pages, plus we'd have a single thread for feedback on the firmware.

Joe920,

That's a great idea. I'll do that, as soon as the upcoming firmware release is set...

@bck you metioned the firmware upgrade already 5 months ago - can you please provide us with an update / an ETA / or at least the information that the DPT-RP1 update will ever happen?

I think we have the right to know when the firmware will be updated. It has been almost a year since the device has been released.

If no update will be done we should be aware at least.

Sorry for the ongoing delay...

Our design team is expanding the update: rather than releasing a new firmware with just a couple of additions/improvements, it'll have numerous/significant improvements.  We'll have an announcement early next year.

That's great to hear! I hope 'early' means 'January' not 'June 30'. Smiley Happy  I also very much hope that some of my suggested gestures make it in, I'd love to be able to navigate more freely.

This is very good news!  I, too, hope that early is really early 1Q.

Re: Table of contents support on the DPT-RP1

[ Edited ]

Hello, I am new to the message boards. I have the "first" version of the Sony Digital Reader, which has bookmarks, embedded notes, and table of contents built into the device. I just now received the second version, which I assumed would be an upgrade. Unfortunately, it was only after I received it that I discovered that core features already available on the first version that are integral to the operation of the device have been removed.  I see that there have been others who have already raised this issue, and I understand that an update may be coming, but is there a reason why features available on the first generation tablet were removed and cannot simply be added to the second generation?  This is the first time I have ever purchased an upgrade product only to learn that core features have been eliminated.  It would be extremely beneficial to get a timeline for the update because in the event it does not happen, I do not want to keep the device.  Therefore, I would appreciate a realistic date for the update while I am still within the return period.

Thank you.

From what I understand the software was completely rewritten, iirc with security in mind. The latest official news is that a significantly enhanced firmware will be released 'early' 2018, but we don't know what features will be included. There's a good chance that the update addresses many of our requests, but if there are features that you absolutely must have it would be safest to return it. It's a hassle, but it's risky to keep a device based on some promised update that may or may not be what you need.

I'm sure it's a matter of policy to not announce unreleased features, but personally I'd also very much like to hear a general outline of what features we can expect to be included, and a slightly more accurate estimate of when we might see it.
