2010 model Bravia TV won't turn off and is stuck on one input

I've had my 40 inch Bravia TV since the end of 2010 and it's worked just fine until a couple of days ago.   Basically it won't turn off either with the remote or when the power button on the TV itself is pressed, and it's stuck on one input.  This has never happened before.    A few days ago I connected a VCR to it because I needed to go through some old VHS tapes I have, and this seems to have started after I started viewing the old tapes.   It's happened twice- yesterday it was fixed by simply unplugging the TV and plugging it back in, but it's now doing it again- won't turn off, won't respond to the remote, and I can't switch inputs.   I also have a Sony Blu-Ray player that switches the TV to it's HDMI input when it's turned on, but even that didn't work to switch the input away from Video 1 (analog input for the VCR).

Has anyone else has this or a similar problem?
