Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

AirBourn, how did your replacement turn out? I was stuck with the X900E. I agree that this feels fraudulent but what can we do? Is there a class action lawsuit we could join? Would like to hear how things turned out for you.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

I was told the exact same story about not having an X930D in the warehouse. I did eventually reach a representative that when coaxed told me the X900E compared feature wise because of 2017 year model upgrades. I am still uncertain this is the case. My X930D was advertised at $2,799 last year and Best Buy has the X900E for $2,299. However, since the 2017 models were released Best Buy has dropped the price on the X930D to $2,199. I'm not sure how you can say a 2016 Ford F150 is now comparable to the 2017 Ford Ranger. Just because the price drops and they become the same price doesn't mean you are receiving comparable products. I can visually see based on the stand and lack of covers on the back of the TV that the X900E is a cheaper made TV.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

I also have a brand new 65x930D which had a repeated failure. First had to get a service repair, where they changed the motherboard, and a few days after the TV would not power up. Because this is now a repeated failure, SONY says they want to replace the TV, also with the 900E model, given they claim it is the comparable one. First, I don't understand how any of you would accept that change. The 900E is indeed a more recent model, and it is comparable in many ways, but it is a downgrade from what you bought. The specs call it clearly. The 900E has no 3D support, whereas the 930D has active 3D (with issues, granted, but still). The backlight type of the 900E is direct LED, whereas the 930D is Edge LED (Slim backlight drive). Often times the Direct LED may be a better choice in terms of contrast, not necessarily on this model. The Direct LED also makes it a thicker TV (2 3/8 in for the 900E v. 1.44 in for the 930D). Finally, on color enhancement, the 930D also has precision color mapping (as does its successor the 930 E), but not the 900E. In short, the 900E is almost a comparable model. The 930E is indeed the successor, with most comparable features and some improvements, certainly. Given this is a replacement given what now seems to be a fairly standard issue more and more customers are experiencing, the right thing to do is to replace the faulty product with the slightly improved version of it, not with a lesser one.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

Hello,

I bought the Sony 930d last December for $2999 Canadian from Best Buy. It wont turn on.

A repair man came but wasnt able to fix it. Does anyone know if they will do cash refunds?

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

Got my xbr65x930d delivered 1/7/17 and was working great. Wednesday night I turned it off went to bed. Been out of town until Saturday afternoon. Went to turn it on and nothing, no power no nothing

The outlet works fine. Other things work when plugged in

Did what Sony said to do and then called the in warranty number the Sony chat person said to call and of course it says the office is closed

I will not accept a less tv as a replacement if they can't fix it.

I am not very happy right now. Have had a Samsung lcd for over 10 years and no problems. A sharp for over 6 years And no problem. But this Sony is only 4 1/2 months old and it is junk it seems.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

Can't you all just claim you've invested a lot of money in 3D movies, love it and won't accept anything other than a similar TV set with 3D support?

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

I had a similar issue the first day of ownership: then about a week after when I routed all cables. In my case It is now working fine- but to make it work- I had to unplug the cable from the back of the tv, from the power brick and UPS- wait 1 full minute- then replace the cables. Seems that beyond what is reported the cable that connects to the back of the TV has some "play on it" and it can make a false contact. Try reversing the position of the cable- it works as well. Several times did the trick- now I have it fixed in with zip ties and all good for about 2 weeks- no issue.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

I'm having a powering up issue for the second time with my 2 month old xbr65x930d .
Bought it at the end of February and it would not power up after a week. I had to delegate to get Best Buy to get me a new one instead of waiting for the repairs to be done. (Thank god I got additional warranty) other wise I would had to be waiting for Sony. After they replaced the tv now a month and half after the second one is also not powering on. (Yes I have it on a surge protector).
After speaking with "tech support" they told me that they are seeing some problems in the board.
All I want is a working tv (I paid msrp) and expect it to work for years instead of buy an open box or clearance item. I've had Samsungs for years and years without any issues .
I hope Best Buy and Sony step up their customer service and resolve this chronic issue quickly and fairly.
Do not want to keep a model that CLEARY needs to be recalled. The last thing anyone needs to go through is a failed $2300.00 tv after the warranty has expired.

Re: Brand new 65x930d wont turn on

[ Edited ]

I went through the whole 930D being replaced by a lesser 900E thing too despite spending almost a month with Sony customer service trying to get them to do the right thing and replace my faulty 930D with a 930E.  I agree 100 percent with your entire post.  My plan is to spend some time during the Christmas season at Best Buy attempting to talk folks out of buying a Sony.  I feel I have been wronged to the extent that I must do this as a matter of principle.
