FAQ: How to set up Google Cast on an Android TV

This article defines what and how to set up the Google Cast™ feature using the Google Chrome browser or using Google Cast-enabled websites or apps.


IMPORTANT: As an alternative to the Miracast™ feature or Screen Mirroring, enjoy casting your photos, videos and TV shows, music, and other streaming services using your Android™ mobile device or Apple® iOS® mobile device or using the Google® Chrome™ browser on your computer.


  • What is Google Cast?

    Google Cast is a technology that lets you cast your favorite entertainment and apps from your mobile device, tablet or computer right to your TV or speakers.

    NOTE: To know more about Google Cast, you can visit the official Google Cast website.


  • How to set up Google Cast to your Android TV.
    • To cast using the Google Chrome browser on your computer.



  • To cast with a Google® Chrome™ browser, make sure you are running the latest Google Chrome browser and have installed a Google Cast™ extension.
  • When casting a tab, it shows the Google tab, but there are system requirements to follow in order not to limit functions to projecting web pages, images, and slideshows.
  • Casting a Google Cast-enabled website is different from casting a tab using a Google Chrome browser.


Follow these steps if you already have downloaded the Google Chrome browser on your computer.

  1. Open up the Google Chrome browser.

    NOTE: If you need to update the Google Chrome browser, follow these steps to check for updates.

    1. Click the Menu icon (Menu), in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome browser.
    2. Click About Google Chrome to check for updates and update if necessary.

  2. Download the Google Cast extension.
    1. Using the Google Chrome browser, search for the Google Cast extension.

      NOTE: You should see an image similar to this.


    2. Click ADD TO CHROME.

      NOTE: A confirmation screen will come up.

    3. Click Add on the confirmation screen.


      • Google Cast with the Google Chrome browser will now be downloaded.
      • Once the Google Cast extension is installed, the cast icon will appear in the upper-right corner of the Google Chrome browser.

  3. Open the Google tab that you want to cast.
  4. Tap the cast icon on the upper right corner of the Google Chrome browser.

    NOTE: When casting websites or apps like Netflix® service, YouTube® videos, Stan, Presto or Quickflix, tap the Cast icon on the app or the website.

  5. Select the TV model.

    NOTE: The Google Cast icon located on the top-right corner of the Google Chrome browser will appear in blue (Cast icon) once it successfully connected to the TV.

  6. Play the video on the computer.

    NOTE: The video from the computer should be playing on the TV once it successfully did the casting of the content.



  • To cast using Google Cast-enabled website or apps using your mobile device.



  • The Android™ TV and the mobile device must be connected to the same network.
  • The Google Cast™ function is available on select mobile apps.
  • Make sure the mobile device is running the latest version of the Google Cast-enabled app.
  • Your Android device must be using the Android 2.3 version or later in order to use the Google Cast function.
  • Your Apple® iOS® must be using the iOS 7.0 version or later in order to use the Google Cast function.
  • Casting from the Google Chrome™ Internet browser on a mobile device is currently not supported.


Follow these steps to cast videos, TV shows or websites from a Google Cast-enabled app installed on an Android device or an Apple iOS mobile device to the Android TV.

  1. Launch the Google Cast-enabled app on the mobile device.
  2. On the app screen, tap the Google Cast icon (Google Cast).
  3. Select the Android TV model.
  4. Tap Play to start playback.



    • After tapping Play, the video from the app will now start playing on the TV screen.
    • The Google Cast-enabled app shown in this example is the YouTube® app.

If the Google Cast function of the Android TV does not work after doing the troubleshooting listed above, check these settings to make sure the Google Cast app is not disabled in the Android TV.


  1. On the supplied IR remote control, press the HOME button.
  2. Under the Settings category, select Settings.
  3. Under the TV category, select App.
  4. Under the App, select System app.
  5. Under the System app, select Google Cast Receiver.
  6. Select Enable.
