Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

Thanks - just what I needed!

Made me realise that my XBOX and Ultra HD Blu Ray were also not doing HDR, so they all look better now! Smiley Happy

It's kinda silly. Regular PS4 has HDR already. The only real difference in the two is 4k/high frame rate modes offered on the Pro. To me that's not early enough to sell my PS4 and get a Pro... As for 4K you can't tell any difference. Higher frame rate is the only real goodie but it's not worth the price.

Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

I am battling the same issues.  I plugged my TV directly into my AppleTV 4k and after restarting it was able to get the Apple to agree to HDR compatibility.  But when I sitched back to running it through my Denon HEOS AVR it refuses to acknowlege that HDR is available.  I've researched the Denon webiste and it says it passes thorugh 4k and HDR, but the AppleTV can't see it for some reason.  Any advice here?

Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

Having same problem.  Getting Sony XBR900E into 4K/HDR TV mode must be enabled on the TV via the HOME/EXTERNAL INPUTS setting and it's not always easy. Sometime I make the change only to discover it wasn't made and have to repeat.  It does affect the picture for all standard HD TV.  And my Spectrum TV picture will not play on the TV unless the TV is set for standard HD.

Frustrating.

Another year passes, another Black Friday approaches. This year there are specific exceptional deals out there. The question is where you put your focus. We are concentrating on TVs since many want to upgrade to 4K HDR. There are some Black Friday Sale Coupons 2017 for this shopping season.

Only ports 2 and 3 are affected by the enhanced mode setting that enables 18 Gb mode allowing HDR at 60Hz.   Ports 1 and 4 should always accept standard modes (can still take 10-bit HDR but only at a maximum of 30 Hz).    Theoretically, the ports set for enhanced mode should still accept standard modes too, but some older equipment is incompatible.

Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

I just hooked up my XBR55X900E and I can’t tell you, this thing ****** in terms of User interface and setup. This is my 4th tv in 3 weeks. I returned the others for various reasons and out of all of them this is not only the most expensive but also the worst to configure. Th TCL 55P605 kicks this thing’s but with the built in Roku TV. When I connected my Apple TV 4K it picked up Dolby Vision inniediately. Right now I can’t get this song to even pick up HDR at all.

And the AndroidTV is painfully slow and cumbersome.

Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

Check HDCP version yourDenon supports. Mine said 4K passthrough but it only supported HDCP 2.0 and after 2.2 was released they were no longer able to support it. 2.2 requires a new chipset so no firmware upgrade would help.

Re: HDR settings on Apple TV 4K on x900e

I have a 75X940D, tried HDMI inputs 2 or 3 after the setting to enhance mode and reconnecting / restarting the Apple TV 4K; I am not getting any videos at all but able to blindly switch the ATV to sleep, the whole system only works at 4KSDR. Any input will help.
