Sony KDL-46V5100 random shut-off 15-20 sec.

My Sony Bravia KDL-46V5100 (V series) works perfectly except it will randomly shut off for a few seconds (15-30) and then restart.  Everything is exactly as was and program just misses a few seconds.  This started when I moved to a new apartment several months ago.  I have changed cable boxes and power cord.  This will sometimes happen several times an evening.  Any suggestions?

Re: Sony KDL-46V5100 random shut-off 15-20 sec.

I'm sorry to hear about what is happening with your TV. Do you notice any indicator light that is flashing on the front panel of the (ex. Pic Off/Timer, Standby or Power) when the issue happens? Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the TV.

Do a Power Reset.

1. Turn off TV.
2. Unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the TV remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. (If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.)
5. Turn on the TV.

If issue persists after doing the steps, reset the TV to factory default settings.

1. Turn on the TV.
2. Using the supplied remote, press and hold the UP arrow button.
3. While holding the UP arrow button press the POWER button on the TV itself.
4. When the TV goes off, release the POWER and UP arrow button.
5. The TV will turn on by itself and the initial setup screen will be displayed. Just follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup.

If the issue still persists after doing all the troubleshooting steps, that may be an indication that the TV is for service. Please refer to this link to locate the nearest Sony authorized service center in your area.

Re: Sony KDL-46V5100 random shut-off 15-20 sec.

My tv got worse, turning off and taking a LOT longer to return, and not coming on when I turned it on but flicking back and forth on front of cable box to time and then to "2d" whatever that is. Finally came on and stayed, but then would still turn off while watching. My brother came over and we worked through the steps. We exchanged the power strip, and we did the tv reset as indicated. Thought for a while that it was fixed, but then twice last night it went off - but was back on within seconds. The lights do go off/flicker on the cable box. This only started after I moved to this apt. I got a new cable box then. I have exchanged that cable box (also getting a new cord with it). Can you advise me what to try next with the tv?

Re: Sony KDL-46V5100 random shut-off 15-20 sec.

Thank you for the information. Is there any indicator light that is flashing on the front panel of the TV when the issue happens (ex. Pic Off/Timer, Standby or Power)?

Let us further isolate the issue by connecting another video source to the TV (ex. DVD player, Blu-ray player, gaming console and etc.). If you don't have another video source available, try to pull up the menu of the TV when the issue happens. If the issue does not happen with a different video source or you were able to pull up the menu of the TV, then we can say that the issue is not with the TV. But if the issue also happens with a different video source and you were unable to pull up the menu of the TV, then that may be an indication that the TV is for service. Re: Sony KDL-46V5100 random shut-off 15-20 sec.

I tried everything I could think of and all suggested things but nothing solved problem.  The time out was actually about 5-10 seconds.  Geek Squad sent someone out for troubleshooting and problem actually happened while he was here!  Replaced some board in computer and a cable.  Absolutely no sign of problem since!  Great job!
