When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

Why has it taken Sony so long to update it's 2017 High End TVs with Dolby Vision? Its very frustrating to have to wait without any knowledge of how long you have to wait.

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

I just bought an XBR65850E (2017) and also wondering if this 4K HDR unit will support Dolby Vision.

****Sony what is the ETA to have your 2017 models support Dolby Vision like other 4K TV vendors?

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

On their own website, Sony clearly states that their high end TVs for 2017, & the ZR9 from 2016, will support Dolby Vision. For the Sony Community people to state that they cannot confirm if it will be supported is false advertising which is a lawful issue at least here in the States. How can Sony not have an ETA Date for the firmware update is a disgrace! The people that have purchased these high end TVs with the implied statement that they would support Dolby Vision late this year, if not done, should get together to sue Sony for misleading its customers.

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

I'm leaving my 850E in the box for another week (need the time to mount the unit and set up new A/V receiver). So I'm waiting to hear if a firmware update will come, otherwise I'll bring it back and get an LG that already supports Dolby Vision.

Where does it say on Sony's website that Dolby Vision is coming with a firmware update? Would like to see that...

On Swiss Sony website it says:

Dolby Vision™ wird mit einer künftigen Firmwareaktualisierung verfügbar sein

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

Hi, this is the Sony US website: for the ZR9, A1E & 930E/940E respectively:

https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/xbr-z9d-series

https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/a1e-series

https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/XBR-X930E-X940E-Series

You will see the DolbyVision logo on all 3 models links listed here when you scroll down to the “Top Features” section.

These 3 sets are the ONLY sets that Sony will offer DolbyVision as of right now, 10/21/2017.

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

Newbie question, if my A/V receiver STR-DN1080 can pass Dolby Vision from my Apple TV 4K (Dolby vision) to my X850E 4k UHD TV does the TV still need to decode it?

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

Your TV needs to be able to decode it as DolbyVision is an imagine enhancer not sound.

Re: When is the Dolby Vision Firmware update going to be available?

The 850e will not receive a Dolby Vision update. Only models with the X1 Extreme chip will get that update. These models include: the 930E, 940E, A1 Oled, and the Z9D. This is confirmed.
