Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

I bought my Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 on June 14th, 2011. It worked fine till the end of June, 2012. Just two weeks after the warranty expired all of a sudden the problem started, powers on for a few seconds and turns off automatically with the standby light blinking. I called Sony customer support and they handed me the following case event# E54912618 and asked to get it checked by a Sony authorized technician in my local area. Sony authorized technician checked the TV, told us the Panel part#1-811-341-11 was defective and it would cost anywhere between $1200-1500 to fix (I can buy a new TV rather than fixing it). Immediately, I called Sony customer support regarding the estimate and was told that they could do nothing about it as the warranty expired 2 weeks ago...only they could do is to replace this with a refurbished TV if i can pay 600 dollars...with a 90 day warranty...how can I rely on a refurbished TV, if a new one has such a horrible panel defect. Thousands of dollars down the drain for a brand name TV which just works for a year. I have also seen in this forum the similar kind of panel defect with a 55 inches model. Something must be extremely wrong with this model.

The panel defect is manufacturer's fault, not consumers responsibility!!! Sony has to take this matter very seriously and stop offering refurbished TV as replacements. Sony is supposed to replace it free of charge (stand behind their own products!). Not at all happy the way customer support specialist answered my questions. This matter has to be taken seriously by the National customer relations department.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

I feel you man. Its ridiculous how inconsiderate sony is. You would think they'd have a notion that they would stand by "We'll help fix any TV issues, or your money back" I'm not saying I want my money back but I have a KDL-32L5000 that just crapped out a few days ago. 3/4's of the screen has lines and other "ghost-like" imaging, but when reading on forums for a fix, it seems this is a common problem in many models aside from my own. Wanna start a petition? =D

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

Hi, I have the same problem with the same TV KDL-46EX720. The TV clicks on, but I get no image, only the red standby light blinks red 3 times and then goes out and that sequence continues indefinately. My case# E55077140 I cant believe sony will not take care of this issue for me, because I do not have the reciept. From what I have been reading this is a very common issue with sony tv's. I love my sony 70inch rear projection LCD, but after this experience I am leaning towards going with another manufacturer for my future tv purchases.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

I was luckier than you are. I had the problem with KDL40S4100,Serial Number: 1190013 . After 2 years, it stopped working. The tv clicked on and stayed, but had no image. I couldn't believe the brand name Sony products is not reliable at all. I bought the 42" vizio tv for my kids 4 years ago. It still is working . Quit buying Sony product

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

I'm having a similar problem with my KDL-46W4500. After about 30 minutes or so it goes away. It's irritating. When I got this set a few years ago my friend got a new TV also. He got a cheaper Vizio that still works pefrectly. The Sony looks fantastic and had a good picture, but quality has gone down. I'm looking for a new set (and would like another Sony), but I cant afford to make the same mistake twice.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 Panel Problem!!!

I have exactly the same problem with my Bavaria KDL-46EX720. We bought it in April of 2011 and here we are in August of 2012 with expired warranty and TV for $1200 that does not work now. I did not check my TV, but remote RM-YD061 is made in CHINA!!!
I think that it is time to let people know not to buy Sony flat screen TVs. My old Sony XBR TV was working over 10 years without any issues, we donated it in a good working condition.
We got garbage product that and will have to replace it.
