Re: Vertical Lines of death KDL-52W4100

I bought the XBR65X800B for $2,620 on 02/14/15 and the tv worked this morning (06/07/16) and this afternoon I got the vertical lines of death. I went with Sony because I have an older Bravia that is ten years old and is going strong and is now the bedroom TV. I know that I am just barely past the one year warranty but come on? Is this really how Sony televisions are, they last for a year and a few months? If so, I am never going to buy another Sony product for the rest of my life. Please tell me there is something that can be done with this other than offering me a refurbished TV for $700.

I got the email telling me to power off and factory restart and no that did not fix the problem.  Then Sony says to call a repair tech which I am not going to do because what's the point and the cost is ridiculous.  I am just going to have to bite the bullet and get a Samsung or Panasonic.  Apparently the new high end Sony TVs are junk.

My case ID is 231998, but if you don't have a better answer than call the repairman and fix it yourself don't even bother.

you should be ashamed Sony for selling an obviously bad product and not standing behind your brand.

Make it right!

Re: Vertical Lines of death KDL-52W4100

[ Edited ]

I had bought my KDL-55HX850 tv on Amazon in 2012 for around $1800; got it shipped to Los Angeles and when I later moved to India took my tv along with me.

However, in January 2016 suddenly my tv died and started showing vertical lines of death. Could not figure out. Contacted local sony service center in Delhi, India only to be disappointed. They offered to replace the panel for $1500. Actually this tv in India costs around $3000.

I started browsing online looking for some better solution. I had already contacted useless sony customer service in USA. I had tried various ways to reset. However, I could not do anything as my screen has no text or menu visible anywhere. I found many people talking about replacing T-Con board including on youtube. Since it was costing around $30-$50 I thought it was well worth the experiment. I got my friend to bring T-con board for my tv from USA and I replaced it myself.

Voila!

It worked great. I had replaced in March and it is still working great. The total cost was painfully watching the tv for over 2 months on 29" samsung computer monitor and $30 I paid to http://www.tristatemodule.com/.

The other site to buy t-con board is http://www.shopjimmy.com/

Before buying this I had opened the backside of the tv and checked the 4 flat cable connections of t-con board. I cleaned with non-alcoholic solution (wet wipes can be used). I just wanted to make sure that cable is not loose any where.

But it is very easy to change. I did it in less than 10mins.

Good luck.

Re: Vertical Lines of death KDL-52W4100

I bought a XBR-43x830c, 1 year and 2 months ago, I am experiencing the vertical yellow line, what a joke!!! I have never had any issues with my LG and will never buy Sony again! Don't seem like they want to do anything about it!

Re: Vertical Lines of death KDL-52W4100

I have SONY KDL 52V5100 TV. I bought this in 2010. Today I got vertical lines on screen. I called SONY Support. Not much of use. If you don’t have Warranty they do not create Case Id for you. They just asked me to call one number and find out myself to find ou how much it will cost me to fix. They told me I will get a mail with instructions. No mail as of yet until 8 pm, 4 hours after the call, No case Id. I am back to square one.

After reading other posts, It seems like fixing done  by SONY is more expensive as oppose to buying same specification NON SONY TV from other companies OR I would rather call local repair person to  it fix from craigslist. As many other people mentioned in post, first I did not believe it so I called them. I agree now. I think they became too big to focus on hardware, TV business any more. They don’t care much about small consumers. I have a VISIO and SAMSUNG too. SONY was most expensive and provided WORST after sales support. Why anyone will want to pay extra for inferior service. I Think it’s time to try other companies which are more interested in our business

Re: Vertical Lines of death KDL-52W4100

When this happened to me, I thought the same. "Why would I pay extra for another Sony?". After shopping around I discovered the reason why - superior picture. It still had the best picture by far to my eyes compared to all the others so yes. I actually bought another Sony even though the sound on the set is poor and I hate their service and I thought a set should last longer than 5 years.
