Why wouldn't Sony KLV-32R402 play all the .AVI and .MP4 format files from USB?

I bought a new Sony KLV-32R402 LED TV yesterday and am deeply disappointed that the .AVI and .MP4 format files cannot be played from USB. Already, Sony doesn't bother to extend their support for all the video files unlike other competitors (reasons best known to them), and why wouldn't they alteast support all the .AVI and .MP4 files?

Earlier I bought BX300 LCD TV and was unaware of the supported video formats then. But now, the shop keepers play the only supported .AVI format (xvid-avi ?), and sells the TV. How does every customer will be aware of the numerous versions and supported file formats? When you say .AVI and .MP4 is supported, why wouldn't they extend their support on all the .AVI and .MP4 files?

Isn't it important to be user-friendly with the enormous fanbase of Sony?
