Hi all.
Try to unplug chip with the lights (battery, HDD...). Now keyboard works. But I don't know what's the main function of this chip Smiley Happy

Can you take a picture of this chip, or circle it on one of my pictures from the first page?

Interesting. Disconnect both cables? Or just one of them? Did you try with just one?

Interesting. That board is probably nothing more than LEDs, like the cables say. Some of the little lights on the front of the computer just won't ever light up if it's disconnected.

Have you tried plugging it back in? Does the keyboard stop working again?

I will verify this on my laptop sometime. Unfortunately, I am overseas for a while and don't have any screwdrivers to open my laptop right now. Thanks for the good find though!

Re: How to replace Vaio Flip 15 keyboard

Ok, I picked up a micro screwdriver set at the dollar store so I could try this out. I disconnected the purple-ended ribbon cable on the LED board and started the laptop back up. To my complete surprise, this is confirmed as a fix for the dead keyboard!

As you may expect, the charging, hard drive activity, and power-on LEDs on the front of the laptop no longer ever light up, but those things are so useless and hidden under the front lip of this laptop, it hardly matters!

I wonder if you could replace that LED board and reconnect the ribbon cable. I bet the keyboard would still work then (until the LED board goes bad in another year probably....)
