Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

Well, the router fix might only be a temporary fix of course.

But more importantly, it seems that the problem occurs at random: Dzik does not have any problem with its new Vaio, furthermore if the problem was on all Vaio Pros, there would be more posts on this thread.

I get mine replaced. I'll come back to you when I receive it (probably around the 26th).

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I went the Sony store in manhattan. I explained my problem and they kept my computer for a few hours . The tech installed a manual patch and my wifi has worked perfectly since then.

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

Hello, as i suffer from the same problems and seriously consider to let the computer go back, you dont happen to have this patch lying around do you? Problem is, i cant just go into a Sony store as there aint none around here...

Also i already tried everything recommended in different forums and nothing worked so far...

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

And what was that patch ? Can we all learn ?
I tried Sony Store in LA and they could not recommend anything other then downloading drivers 16.05 directly from Intel but this did not solve the issue.

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I have returned my laptop  for full credit and will most likely try to order a new one  right after holidays in August. Hopefuly by that time the wifi issue is cleared up one way or another.

To summarize the issue

Vaio Pro 13 is fine right by the router (30 Mbps download internet speed -same as Vaio Z).   the wifi on the laptop refuses to work when just a little futher from the router.  It either connects at 0.001 Mbs speed and then drops the connction or does not connect at all. All other devices such as ipad, ipod touch, Sony Vaio Z,  old 2009 acer netbook, tiny micro  150mbs wirelss usb card all work fine at that location away from the router with internet speed (6-10 Mbps) .   www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

Tried new drivers 16.0.5.3 (installed via Intel and also via Sony latest update)   max power setting for wifi, switching off bluetooth .  Running it plugged in to AC, Auto Channel width setting (instead of 20). Router runs AES encryption abgn network  at 2.4 GhZ  WPA2  -very standard.   Did not try  TKIP since the laptop was already sent back but I can believe it would not run AES only at further distance and be OK at shorter distance.   Others have also problems with TKIP. Some people report more stable connections with AES.  In any case this is the router setting and the user will have not control over this in many situations (public or hotel wifi).

Will stay tuned. Hopefully Sony/Intel read this and do something about it- otherwise beautiful laptop but next to useless without reliable wifi.

Can people with well working wifi test it further away from the router and report the settings used  -frequencies encryptions driver versions etc  ?

I think it is still unclear if this is a general software or hardware problem for Sony or for Intel 7260 or something affecting only some batches of laptops (bad hardware QC).

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

[ Edited ]

From what I've read so far I believe it is on the Intel side. Could be the motherboard chipset or the actual wireless card but I'm tempted to blame the chipset. The Macbook Air is also having the same problem using the 4th gen Itel processor. The Duo 13 also has some wireless problems and they use 4th gen Intel processors. Something somewhere does not want to play nice.

Intel, Sony, or both are likely searching for an answer/patch right now. Apple is going straight to quiet recall mode. This is also something internal testing must have missed in general. Only choice is to be patient and wait for stable drivers from Intel or Sony. I would keep up the discussion though just to remind people, and them, that a solution is required (and inform people when the solution appears).

Cheers,
Keiran

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I tried MCKs manual download of the Intel driver, and the wifi has worked  beautifully ever since (3 days ago)

From this I can say it must just be a software issue.  Sony really needs to get this into its Vaio autoupdate and sort the problem.

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I did try the latest intel driver 16.0.5.3 -verified that it was installed in device manager. Rebooted the computer and still had the same problem (as described before when laptop further from the router) so it maybe some different issue. Se others here tried that driver and it did not help. I think Sony now has that driver in the automatic update

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

Check at notebookreview in the Vaio Pro 13 thread, the process detailled there helped me with a stable connection so far.

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

Before I retuned it, I restored the computer entirely, installed all the updates, and installed the new wifi driver for the last chance. Here is what happned - I have an Apple airport extreme dual band router. The computer was 2 feet next to the router, and the signal indicator kept swinging between 1 bar and full 4 bars, the connection was stable.  Next day, it became stable at a 4 bars (don't know why). I tested the speed via speedtest.net. My other computers recorded 78mbs/30mbs, and the sony Pro 13 recorded an embarrassing 17mb/4mbs.
