Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

This solution did not work for me. I am currently using my second sony vaio duo 13. I sent back the first one and now the second one has the same awful wifi function. Wifi works perfectly if the node is within arm's length, literally. 10 to 20 feet away and it becomes nonfunctional -- 1 to 4 Mbps or less. This is true at multiple locations with many different routers.
I currently have a second return label that Sony has already sent to me. This time I'm asking for a refund rather than another machine. Still, if there were a solution, I'd take it. This seems like a beautiful machine, but the wifi has to work for it to be useful.
My wifi chipset appears to be Broadcom SDIO adapter, not Intel. Is this right? Or is the Intel chipset on my machine (SVD132190X) but I'm not looking in the right place?

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

  • What is the exact issue?  (please be specific)

Wifi speed drops off very fast as I move away from routers. Other devices work just fine, only the Pro 13 does not work. Same in hotels, Sony does not see any wifi, Ipad had 4 bars.....

  • What is the Wireless Driver Version installed? (Wireless Version - 16.1.0.14)

Latest one from today

  • Brand and Model name of access point (

ASUS RT-AC66U and Lin sys as well as varous WAPs at hotels etc.

  • Firmware version of Access Point (Router)

Latest one

  • Approximate Distance of notebook to the router or access point

At home at around ~ 40 ft no reception with Sony laptop, other devices still have 4 bars

  • Security type (WEP, WPA, etc)

WPA2

  • Network type (A,B, G, or N)

G/N

  • Freq Type : 2.4Ghz or 5GHz

Tried both, makes no ****** difference

Sony has average 3.43 download speed about 20 ft from the router, while Ipad and Dell XPS 12 in same location have 21.18 and 23.85, repectively!!!!!

Other places in my home have no signal for the Sony, and 1.87 and 2.32 for the other two devices.....

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

Hello,

My situation:

1. I have Sony Vaio Pro 132A1CM

2. From the begining I had all the same problems with WiFi card

3. When installed all windows updates (manually checked) and WiFi card drivers 16.1.0.14 looks ok.

Generally sayiing internet transfer is very fast. Much more faster than on my Lenovo ThinkPad T420.

It's look ok, but I have following problems (maybe this is not problem with WiFi, then I ask moderator to cut this post and put on correct discussion):

1. When I'm downloading file (checked on IE and Chrome) file downloading very fast but on 99% is stopping and after few second downloading is corrupted. From begining when I have a SVP I cannot dowload any file. I must use my old ThinPad. Interesting is that all windows updates and Office 365 can dowloading a files.

2. Im using chrome, all sites is not opening. I must each time use "refresh" button to have completed open site.

I also clear all history (such dr. "google" saying) but it helps for few minutes.

Have anyone such problems ? maybe solution for that.

Best,

Sebastian

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I installed a brand new ASUS router yesterday and ran some tests with my Dell XPS 12 (Windows 8), my Ipad (newest generation) and the Vaio Pro 13 (latest drivers). All tests are on 2.4 GHz.

The three locations I measured are one room over from the router (series 1), downstairs (series 2), and at the point farthest away from my router (series 3).

The Vaio clearly has the worst connectivity of the three devices, not connecting at all in point 3. It still shows 3-4 bars, but will simply not connect to the Internet at that location.speed.jpg

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

I am having exactly the same wifi issue with my VP13.  It loses reception if I am more than 20ft from the router.  My Lenovo Thinkpad x61 from 2008 gets reception like a champ behind three walls from the same router.

My VP13 even loses connection when I'm in the same room with the router.  All of my settings are default, out-of-the-box settings.  I have installed all of the driver updates including the one that came out yesterday.  These have no effect on the issue whatsoever.

I am probably going to return this otherwise-glorious laptop which is very sad.

Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue!

[ Edited ]

I registered on this forum just because of this topic.

I recently recieved my vaio Fit 15 and it has the exact same plroblem as mentioned by all other people on this forum. Near my router my laptop reaches around 20mb/s but when I move away just for a couple of metres it drops to 0.8mb/s and makes it impossible for me to open web pages and download anything. All my other devices(smarthphone etc) have a flawless wifi signal in all of my house.

I contacted the Dutch sony support and they said they didn't hear of the problem before, which to me sounds strange considering the amount of people on this forum that experienced the same problem. I agreed to recieving a new fit 15 which I will recieve whitin 2 weeks, the salesman added a free harddrive upgrade which is nice of sony, but to be honest I don't think this new fit will solve the problem. If the problem is still there on the new laptop, I will ask for a refund and buy a other laptop.. It just can't be that I payed close to 1200 euro's on a laptop and that the most basic thing, the wifi, isn't working properly.

I asked a guy on youtube, who reviewed the fit 15, if he has the same problem and he told me he does. He also told me that sony probably placed the wifi card in the wrong place where the wifi signal can't really reach. He now uses an internet cable instead of the built-in wifi. Personally I think the alluminium casing may be blocking the wifi signal. If either one of these theories is true, sony screwed up big time and has to immediately return all of the vaio Fit and Pro models worldwide and fix this problem, just like toyota does when they find a flaw in their cars and just like what Apple is currently doing with their new Macbook pro's(who seem to have the same wifi issue, Apple is replacing the faulty laptops with new ones)

This is the worse buy I've ever made, first time sony and such a experience just really, really disappoints me. I just hope that the wifi problem can be fixed with a software update.

To Sony: Please comfirm there is a problem with the wifi. Even if there is no solution available yet. I think a lot of people who bought this laptop for college(like me) need this problem solved before the first of september when the new schoolyear begins. We would like to know if we can expect a solution before the new college year begins?
