Replace CMOS Battery - PCV-AH1L

Very basic question...

I have my Sony Vaio (Model #PCV-AH1L) open to replace the CMOS battery. I already know what a CMOS battery looks like and I have a replacement battery on hand once I find where the existing battery is located. I would prefer not to take all the components out unless I have to. Does anyone know the exact location of the CMOS battery in this AIO desktop computer? If it helps, the additional model information is VGC-LV250J.

Re: Replace CMOS Battery - PCV-AH1L

Hi VAIOPCV,

The RTC(CMOS) battery is located to the right of the hdd (when you have the lcd facing down looking at the back end) before the TV Turner card located next to the optical/usb inputs.  You may have to remove a PCB shielding cover to see the battery.   Good luck.

Thanks for the response NickT. Unfortunately, unless I am not following your location correctly, that is not the location.

With the computer laying on the LCD screen, the TV Tuner is to the right of the hard drive and the rear USB ports. There are two shields covering the lower right corner of the computer (from the perspective mentioned previously). I was able to remove the eight or nine screws that held those two shields in place. However, the smaller shield is held in place by the TV Tuner. There are two screws holding the TV Tuner in place which I was able to remove. However, there is a third screw which is underneath and covered by the TV Tuner itself. I cannot find a way to get to that screw from the rear of the computer. I took a small portable flashlight and confirmed the CMOS battery is not located in this area.

On the opposite side, the TV input ports (Cable/Antenna/HDMI) are to the right of the optical drive which is above the side USB ports. I checked underneath the optical drive and underneath the shield in the upper left hand corner of the computer (from the previously mentioned perspective). I even checked under the main hard drive location. At this point, the only locations I haven't checked are under the fans (two fans and the heatsink fan), under the shield below which the stand is attached, and under the secondary hard drive. I sent an email to Sony Support. Depending on if/when they get back to me, I may just dive in and check the other locations.

If I misunderstood your original directions, or if you have any online documentation you can reference, please let me know.

Re: Replace CMOS Battery - PCV-AH1L

Hi VAIOPCV,

That is correct, it is located between the harddrive and the turner card underneath the shield.

Actually, the CMOS battery is located on the opposite side of the motherboard on this model.
The CMOS on the PCV-AH1L is located at the top of the motherboard, on the reverse side, opposite of the CPU.

You have to remove the mainboard in order to access the battery to change it.
Make sure you have some thermal paste on hand to reseat the cooling system.

Re: Replace CMOS Battery - PCV-AH1L

The CMOS battery is in fact under the motherboard, however there is a much easier way to get to it.

If you lift up the LCD it is right underneath and easily accessible.  Just pull the surrounding "speaker grid" off which is only held on with clips.  There are four screws in the four corners of the LCD bracket.  Remove these and gently lift the left edge of the LCD.  The CMOS battery is right there on the left middle side.

Hope this helps.
