Screen goes black, laptop shuts itself down

Hello,

The last few months I've begun to have an issue with my laptop. Sometimes when I'm using my laptop, seemingly out of nowhere, the screen will go black and a second later the laptop shuts itself down. Recently this has been occurring with alarming regularity. It seems that I can't use my laptop for more than a little over an hour or so before I run into this problem.

Afterward, the laptop starts up just fine, nothing seems amiss and I can use the laptop for a while, but then I inevitably encounter this problem again. I've been told it may be do to overheating.

The side fan has been running loudly and non-stop when the laptop is on, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was an overheating problem. I've also been told that Vaio laptops are prone to problems with overheating.

So, is this an overheating problem, and if so, what should I do about it? I'm not sure how to clean the fan on a VPCF132FX model laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jan,

For the black screen issue follow all the steps mentioned below:

Try re-installing the Video Driver to check if it works. You can download the driver form here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCF132FX&upd_id=6027&os_group_id=6

Next, follow all the steps mentioned here: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/42041/c/65%2C66/kw/42041

Next, perform a complete system recovery to restore your computer to the factory settings. Restart the computer, keep tapping the F10 key continuously, press enter key at the edit boot option, select start recovery wizard and click on skip VAIO Care rescue (If you do not wish to back up data) to start the system recovery process.

Note: You can perform the system recovery only if you're using the same factory installed operating system. It is required to take backup of all the data before performing the system recovery as it erases everything from the computer.

If the issue persists, contact Sony Service Assistance Team here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/service.pl

For the overheat issue try performing all the steps mentioned here: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38924/c/65%2C66/kw/38924
