I am shocked that Sony Viao Care program that came with my laptop continues to recommend defragmenting my SSD(Solid State Drive). I even called tech support and the tech also recommended defragmenting the drive. This reflects very poorly on Sony. I will be very hesitant to buy another Sony computer.
Hello, Welcome to the User Discussion Forums. Many of our Laptops have several configurations, with HDD or SDD storage options both within the same Series.
Please note step 5 of the below walkthrough of VAIO Care [url=http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C1009277&sliceId=2&docTypeID=DT_KNOWLEDGEARTICLES_1_1&dialogID=534988448&stateId=1%200%20534996491:3kogn9uc]How to use the VAIO Care™ utility to improve system performance.[/url:3kogn9uc]
NOTE: Defragmenting a Solid State Drive (SSD) does not improve system performance because unlike a standard HDD there are no moving parts. It is the moving parts, such as the read arm, that slow down a standard HDD because it takes time to physically move the arm around disk platters to read the data
If you have a Solid State Drive, Defragmenting your Hard Drive does not improve system performance. When you use System Tuneup, the windows defragmenting schedule should be disabled at default.
