Sony Vaio overheating + won't turn back on

Hello all,

My SONY Vaio VPCSC31FM ran flawlessly for 5 and a half years with Windows 7.
Just last night I was using it, when it started to overheat (more than the usual) and the screen froze.

I consider that a fairly normal situation. But last night, it didn't come back to life.
I simply forced the shutdown by pressing and holding power button.

I waited a while to cool off. Then, I tried turning it back on. Here's what happens:

1) The screen won't turn back on. It's blacked out, like it's off.

2) The keyboard backlight lits only when a key is pressed.

3) The battery led is on and it looks like it's charging.

4) There's seems to be no sign of CPU activity (CPU led is off) and no Windows sounds are played.

5) The fan works and it gets faster as computer stays on.

I have tried removing the battery, pressing and holding power for 60 secs and turning on without the battery: no success on that.

Any ideas from the folks what that might be? And what can I try to do to save the laptop?

Thank you in advance.

Maaaaybe one of these low-tech'/at your desk    potential solutions;

_Full scan by  A-V and malware software ?

_ apply a soft brush to the nozzle end of your vacuum and run slowly over the intake/outakes and ports of your laptop ?

they talk of blowing air from a canister but unless you open the case completely to blow it away, i see air blowing contaminants further into the case and onto components.  IMHO

Annnd just-in-case;

Re: Sony Vaio overheating + won't turn back on

Battery not working

One of the main reasons why your computer may not be booting is that the battery may be unuseable. Try replaceing it with a new or slightly used one.

Bad power adapter

If your power adapter is bad, the computer will run off a battery, and it won't charge. The best way to test this is to borrow either a battery or power adapter to test. Also make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into the wall socket and the laptop. If the first socket does not work, try another one. If you have the same problem with another power adapter, your problem is most likely the logic board. Compatible power adapters can be found on the internet.

Re: Sony Vaio overheating + won't turn back on

Unfortunately I could not fix the issue.

Have tried all of the steps mentioned, but still no luck.

I'll have it sent to a technician, but my hopes aren't so high.

I appreciate all the help and replies from everyone.

If I ever find out what the cause was, I'll come back here and tell you just out of curiosity.

Thanks again and best regards,
