Unable to change power option associated with closing laptop - WIn 7

[ Edited ]

I'm unable to change power options associated with closing the lid on my Sony Vaio laptop. It's model VPCEB33FM, and I've described the problem and its symptoms here:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3f9f4e28-799b-4a6d-9da8-9a5845157ff2/somethings-wr...

It was suggested to me that I update the chipset and/or ACPI drivers. Can you tell me if they are available on the internet, and where?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

I found the chipset drivers here:

and installing them had no effect on the problem. Any other suggestions?

Hi, __John_L

Welcome to Sony Community!

Is your unit still running the original operating system that came with it? Were you able to use this option before?

Regards,

Vincent

Re: Unable to change power option associated with closing laptop - WIn 7

Yes, it is the original operating system.

I bought it second-hand, it developed the problem at some time since I've owned it.

Possibly significant is the fact that the Microsoft Composite Battery device in Device Manager cannot start (Code 10).

Also I've noted in Event Viewer an error "Event 7023, Service Control Manager" during startup. The general message text is:

The Power service terminated with the following error:

The system cannot find the file specified.

BTW, no filename is specified.
