VAIO VPCS111FM Display

Need help.  Laptop VAIO VPCS111FM has display screen that stays dim.  Ambient lighting is turned off and brightness is turned all of the way up.  It seems like the ambient lighting is messed up.  Could be a driver.  Any ideas ??

Hi Marty,

Try performing all the steps mentioned here:

Next, try performing the system restore to an earlier time following all the steps mentioned here:

Next, perform a complete system recovery to restore your computer to the factory settings. Restart the computer, keep tapping the F10 key continuously, press enter key at the edit boot option, select start recovery wizard and click on skip VAIO Care rescue (If you do not wish to back up data) to start the system recovery process.

Note: You can perform the system recovery only if you're using the same factory installed operating system. It is required to take backup of all the data before performing the system recovery as it erases everything from the computer.

If the issue persists, contact Sony Service Assistance Team here:

Re: VAIO VPCS111FM Display

I have the same issue - screen is DIM and does not change when using Fn+F5 or F6.

I went into Control Center and turned Automatic Brightness OFF.

No change. BIOS is up to date.

When I uninstalled the display adapter driver and told it to delete the software, the screen went black. Eventually I rebooted and the screen was BRIGHT while restarting and "don't turn off your computer" "updating ******%" messages were on screen. But just before the Welcome screen, the screen dimmed to its usual level.

When I went into BIOS, the screen was BRIGHT.

Here is the fix that worked for me:  Edit registry key (regedit.exe) FeatureTestControl in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001 (OR 0000)

edit the hexadecimal value for KEY FeatureTestControl to be fb20.  The image came from another user with the same issue on the same model laptop, with Intel graphics.

Again, the KEY to update is FeatureTestControl.  See the picture, even though the system is not in English, the key names are.
