VGN AR750: only beeps, no boot

I have a Sony VGN AR570/W. Today when I powered up the machine it made one long beep followed by two short beeps. I can't seem to even get into setup mode. The computer is running Windows 7. But I suspect either a battery or hard drive failure. Does anyone have any idea what that sequence of beeps means?

Thanks.

Re: VGN AR750: only beeps, no boot

The beeps come from the motherboard as it's unable to pass post. Try unseating and re-seating the RAM. Instructions on how to add/remove memory is on the user guide, starting page 124:

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VGNAR700series.pdf

To troubleshoot when there are two RAM modules, remove one and try to boot, then move the one that's left in to the other location and do the same with the other module. That way you can establish if one of the modules is faulty or if its a problem with one of the connectors on the motherboard.
