Vaio keeps turning off WiFi

I own an AR590E which came with an Intel 4965AGN WiFi card. I'm trying to replace it with one that uses a Broadcom chip. When I initially boot the machine, the little LED lights up indicating that WiFi capability is turned on.

After Windows 7 boots up, the LED turns off after a few seconds, and Windows thinks that WiFi is turned off. The device drivers are installed properly, as the device is recognized as working. When I "diagnose" the network connection, Windows basically says slide the switch on the front of the computer to turn on WiFi.

The exact same thing happens with an Intel 3945ABG WiFi card.

Was the WiFi card not intended to be changed out on this model? What is going on?

Re: Vaio keeps turning off WiFi

Fred5,

The software switch might be turned off. Please turn on the wireless switch via software ;

1) Check VAIO Smart Network or SmartWi application and turn on the wireless switch.

Where can I get these utilities? I upgraded my machine to Windows 7, and none of the applications on the original restore discs could be installed.
