Wireless Switch set to ON but its green light is OFF so WiFi not working

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Sony VAIO VGN-FE780G with Windows 8.

The wireless switch started giving problem since last 1-2 years. The green light used to get off even while working on laptop, usually it used to get off as soon as you move the laptop little bit. I used to slide it to off and on and push it little bit to make it ON. Usually this used to make it green and wifi used to work.

Last week the green light went off and then even after trying to make it ON by sliding to Off and ON or pushing it, its not becoming green.

My guess is that the switch had loose connection and now it has finally broken from inside.

What's the solution? Can I open the laptop and fix it?

Regards,

Sachin

Although the VGNFE780G originally came with Windows XP, and is not supported for Windows 8, I would say that if you had Windows 8 working on the PC for WiFi before, this seems to indicate a hardware issue with the switch.

Have you tried opening the Settings charm in Windows 8, and clicking into the Change PC settings link, then to Wireless to see if the WiFi radio has been disabled in the settings?

Awesome! Wireless Device was set to OFF. I dont know how that happened but after making it ON the wi-fi switch light turned green and wi-fi connected. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

How can I fix the problem of loose switch though?

Regards,

Sachin

Re: Wireless Switch set to ON but its green light is OFF so WiFi not working

I have an older model laptop (VGN-NS230E) running on Windows Vista. The wireless switch is set to on but the light is not coming on and the wifi won't connect, despite other computers in the same home connecting to available networks.

adreamer637:

What is the model number?  Also, what version of Windows are you currently running on your laptop?

Hi adreamer637!

What you may have there is a hardware issue already, for us to check, you may wanna try running the hardware diagnostics (if available). If the hardware diagnostics are not available you may refer to this page to start the repair procedure.
