Re: should I leave my battery charger plugged in all the time

Hi pjk1954.

It depends on you either to have the AC Adapter plugged in to the computer or remove when the battery is completely charged. However, allowing the computer to remain on AC Adapter charge will have no negative impact on the computer or battery.

So I should charge the battery, remove it and then leave the computer on the charger.

Leaving the battery in and on the charging hurts the battery right?

Re: should I leave my battery charger plugged in all the time

Most laptop batteries are lithium based, look it up on Wiki for further information on optimal performance.

Most laptops will charge the battery and unlike the old nickel batteries, they will not continue charging (cooking) once topped off. So leaving it pluggend in all the time will have no effect. However once a month or so you should "exercize" the battery. Lithum batteries maitain a good recharge cycle if you discharge them to about 20% on most days and once a month or so to 0% and then all the way back up tp %100.

You can find out more about maintnace on these with a quick search.

I know this post is old but I disagree. The number one killer for batterys is heat and over heating. Also if you dont need your battery just take it out. It will save the life of your battery and computer because you will have one less things making any heat so your laptop will run cooler too.

Re: should I leave my battery charger plugged in all the time

This is true.

But a battery can also act as a PSU so if the power goes out you can save your work before shutting down.

Comes down to what you realy want to do I guess.
