system shuts down after 2 to 3 minutes

i have a vpcee31fx. after 2 to 3 minutes of startng the pc, whether windows 7, restore, holdind f2 or using assist the system starts and powers down after 2 to 3 minutes. used a voltmeter to make sure the battery and power supply are ok. called support and they intonated a bad mother board. any ideas for another solution? Hello Joe,
You may be experiencing a bad fan. the computer will shut itself down to protect the CPU. if you have a Laptop Cooling tray, that may keep the system powered up long enough to get your data. If the fan sounds to be running properly, it could be the board as they suggest. The silver lining in all this is your data is likely safe as the hard drive doesn't seem to be involved.

Hi, an update. It is the fan. Not worth fixing as there are other issues with the machine. I managed to get the needed data out using fans to keep the macine cool. Thanks so much for your help. Joe.
