Graphics Driver for VAIO Pro Ultrabook

In 2014 there were many posts about no audio on HDMI output on VAIO Pro. The most promising path to resolution of this problem was a new or updated graphics driver for VAIO Pro. Hope for resolution was promised in a post referencing a download named EP0000317186.exe from dlv.update.sony.net/pub/vaio/dwnload. This was purported to provide an update to Intel graphics driver version 15.33.5.64.3316. But this package actually, when unpacked and installed, contained driver version 10.18.10.3316, and (at least on my Pro 13 Ultrabook) did not resolve the problem on Windows 8.

So my first question now is "Where can I get a graphics driver update for VAIO Pro Ultrabook that will resolve this problem, and what are the restrictoins or requirements, if any, with respect to Windows Version (8, 8.1, 10) with which this update will work?"

My second question is "Is anyone listening? Is support for VAIO Pro now dead because the product is discontinued?"

Hello Cowboy, could you inform the model of the ultrabook?

Another thing: For you to see the version of your operating system right click on the computer icon and goes on properties.
I will help you find this driver.

Re: Graphics Driver for VAIO Pro Ultrabook

My VAIO Utrabook is 30-US-SVP132190X-LBOM (aka SVP13215PXB), a P-Series notebook configured with Windows 8 (not 8.1), ordered from Sony Store under Order # 0004300002397302 on November 3, 2013..

Re: Graphics Driver for VAIO Pro Ultrabook

Thank you for your reply to this post. I have updated the graphics driver and several other drivers (e.g., Audio, LAN and BIOS) provided on the Sony esupport link provided in your reply. After installing INDVID-00296376-0082 and INDVID-P0317186-1082, there is a difference in the audio behavior when playing a video for display via the HDMI connector, but it is not the behavior that I had expected or hoped for.

Prio to applying driver updates, when I played a video with an HDMI cable connected to my VAIO, the graphic (video) content of the movie was displayed on both my VAIO screen and on the HDMI-connecteed remote display (A/V display system), but there was no audio output either to my VAIO speakers (or headphone jack) or to the remote HDMI-connected system.

After applying the updates, graphic content was once again provided on both my VAIO display and on the HDMI-connected A/V system, and this time audio content was provided to my VAIO speakers (and headphone jack), but not to the HDMI-connected A/V system. It appears, based on this performance test, that the HDMI output on this VAIO notebook is by design video only (sans audio content). If true, this means that HDMI output on this VAIO notebook is (by design) quite useless. The purpose of HDMI is to provide a connection that supports both video and audio content for program material, so to design or provide an HDMI capability that supports only video - without audio - content is useless and (from a marketing standpoint) deceptive.  I hope I'm wrong about this, but it apears to me at this point that the HDMI support on this VAIO notebook is useless for my purposes (and for the purposes of the majority of users in the world).

If you think that audio content should be being provided via the HDMI output connector on this VAIO notebook, please let me know.

Re: Graphics Driver for VAIO Pro Ultrabook

This was not to happen, hdmi cable is audio and image.
I do not know if I would help you but you can update the video directly through the intel website.

Follow the driver link for intel graphics 4400

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pt-br/download/26544/Graphics-Driver-de-gr-ficos-Intel-para-Windows...

You can find the download on the left side of the screen.

Download the correct driver as 32bits or 64bits whatever your windows

The date of this driver is 1/25/2017

Re: Graphics Driver for VAIO Pro Ultrabook

Thank you again for following up with this issue! With delight at the news that there may be hope for resolution, I went back to the system to test it again, and this time (even without downloading a new driver) I was able to get both video and audio output to my HDMI-connected A/V system!

I have concluded that the thing that had tripped me up during my previous test (after installing new drivers from the Sony esupport website) was that if you plug in an HDMI cable (connecting to an external A/V system) to a running VAIO notebook, you will immediately get video output on the HDMI-connected A/V system, but you will not get audio routed to the HDMI-connected system, and there will be no audio device in the system configuration which you can select through any configuration menu or option. And this is because the Intel driver that supports audio over HDMI will not be configured in the system unless the HDMI-connected A/V system is powered on and connected via HDMI to the VAIO notebook when the VAIO notebook is booted.

So the consrtaint (based on evidence in my testing) is that there must be a live HDMI-connected A/V system connected to the VAO notebook when the VAIO is powered on and booted in order for the VAIO notebook (running 64-bit Windows 8) to configure an Intel audio device for HDMI. In the case of my particular VAIO notebook, when I provided a live external A/V system connected at boot time, I got an audio device named "R607" with description "2 - Intel Display Audio" configured into the Windows 8 system. When this device was selected as "Default Device" for Sound in Control Panel, I got audio (together with video) routed via HDMI to my external A/V system.

SUCCESS !!!!  THANK YOU !!!!
