Re: My sony vaio laptop says operating system not found when booting up

Hi,

What is the model # of computer? Refer the following link to locate the model #:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=264

Is there any hardware or software changes made?

Remove any peripherals, dock as well as removable media if connected to the computer and try the steps listed below to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check if the hard drive is listed in BIOS. Restart computer > Press "F2" key.
  2. For Windows 8, Turn OFF computer > Press Assist button > Press F2 key to access the BIOS.
  3. If the hard drive is not listed, the issue may be related with the hardware. Reset the BIOS once.
  4. Use the arrow keys on keyboard to locate "Exit" button and select "Load optimized or default values" option, save the settings and exit BIOS.
  5. Next, check if you are able to boot to the operating system.
  6. In case, if the issue persists, it may be related with the hardware.
  7. If the hard drive is listed, follow the steps listed on the link: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30721/c/65,66/kw/Error%20Operating%20system%20not%...
  8. In case, if the issue persists, contact Sony service team: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/service.pl

Re: My sony vaio laptop says operating system not found when booting up

Hi Ulreich,

Welcome to Sony Community!

I'm sorry to hear about this. May I know what is the model name of your computer? what is the exact message that you encountered when you went to BIOS? Was there any change happened prior to this?

Let's try this, turn off the computer then press F10  or press the ASSIST button to boot to recovery mode. Follow the wizard if you can boot to either of the two.

Regards,

Jen

Re: vaio with operating system not found

Hi anita93

Welcome to Sony Community!

I am really sorry to hear this.

It means that the hard disk drive is not working anymore. You laptop cannot load the Operating System (Windows) because the unit cannot detect the hard drive. (By the way, another way of formatting the unit is by using F10 while the laptop is restarting).

If you wish to purchase new hard disk drive, we recommend visiting this site. https://sony.encompass.com/. Then you will also need to have a set of Recovery Discs (Recovery Media Kit). But if you already have the recovery discs, you may install that once you have the right hard disk for your laptop.

Hope this help.

Thanks,

Vincent
