Solution to fix problem with camera and Windows 8 after intializing Skype.

I purchased a Sony T13 laptop with Windows 8 and the camera function has stopping working after initializing Skype.  Is there a solution to this problem.  The camera did work intially upon start up.

Hello John,

If the issue is only with Skype try re-installing it and check if you’re using the updates software compatible to Windows 8 Operating System.

Make sure that the camera is not used by any other application while trying to access with Skype, as it will work only with one application at a time.

If the issue is also with the pre-installed camera app, perform all the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

Follow all the steps mentioned here to install the camera driver: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37440

Next, perform a power reset procedure:https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37603

Next, perform a system refresh on the computer: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1034517

Next, perform a complete system recovery to restore your computer to the factory settings:

Note: It is required to take backup of all the data before performing the system recovery, as it erases everything from the computer.

If the issue persists, contact Sony Service Assistance Team here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/service.pl

Re: Solution to fix problem with camera and Windows 8 after intializing Skype.

I had a similar problem as couldn't get camera to work in any application after upgrading my Sony Vaio VGN-CR307E to Windows 8 (x32).

I found a solution on the Microsoft Technet forum titled Windows7 and Sony Motion Eye and applied this fix to my Windows 8 installation and it worked for me. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproappcompat/thread/98165304-fa9a-4960-a5f6-8c50dd...

I downloaded/installed the Universal Extractor (http://legroom.net/software/uniextract)  then got Windows Vista driver from http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR307E&upd_id=3353&os_group_id=10.

I ran the Extractor on the Driver's Installer, which extracted all of the files. I then updated the driver files for the USB video device under Imaging Devices in device manager  and it renamed itself as Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6

It seems that the Sony drivers aren't extracting or installing properly in Windows 8 environment.
