Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

Hi everyone,

I am having problems with my new Sony Vaio Fit 14. It seems that every time I want to restart the computer It will literally take forever and wont restart unless I force it to shut down by pressing the button.

I recently bought it so I would like to know what could the cause be.

Thanks

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

I just want to know if you have a lot of background operations going on prior to restarting your computer.  Was it working properly prior to the issue?  Try closing all the applications before restarting.  Does it also happen when you select shutdown? Please provide the model name of your VAIO computer.

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

My model is the "SVF14A190X" and I am using normal softwares like chrome, microsoft word. This has been happening since the first day I bought it.

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

So even without any applications running it wont restart? Have you tried restarting the computer right after turning it on?  Did you install third party software recently? Have you tried Safe Mode?

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

Yes I tried restarting right after turning on and it does restart. It looks like the problem is when I want to shut down or restart when I have used different softwares.

No I have not, this has been a problem since day 1 I bought the laptop.

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

Hello,

I have a similar model and had this same problem since I bought my Sony Vaio laptop in 2013. The restart function has never worked from inception. Anytime I use the function, I wait for hours before I shutdown with the power button. So to restart I have had to use shutdown them power on button. It's not the way a laptop should function. Also the suggested solution is not the issue, laptop doesn't restart is the main issue.

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

Was this issue resolved? I am getting same issue with my SONY VAIO VPCEA25FA model. When I try to restart using restart button in windows, the laptop shuts down but does not boot up again - the power button stays on - can hear the sound of fan/hdd rotating - but nothing on the screen - despite leaving it that way for hours. I need to hard press the power button, shut down and start again using power button - it starts up fine and does not show any error. Please help rectify.

Re: Sony Vaio Fit 14 won't restart

Hi praving76

Thank you for considering Sony Community!

I'm sorry to hear your issue. The issue could be hardware or software. You may isolate the issue by following these steps:

  • Power cycle the unit - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals -> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds.
  • Boot the unit to Safe Mode - Turn off the laptop -> press the power button and immediately tap the F8 key repeatedly. Once in Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode. (If the laptop will boot to Safe Mode, go to Programs and Features and uninstall third-party applications).
  • You may also select Last Known Good Configuration
  • Reset BIOS - Turn off the unit -> press the power button and tap the F2 key repeatedly. Once in BIOS, go to Exit tab -> Get Default Values -> select and hit Enter -> Save the changes and Exit

Your Vaio VPCEA25FA is not a U.S. model and we have limited information about this.

For further assistance regarding your concern, please contact the Sony offices/Sony representative offices nearest to your place of residence in Asia Pacific region http://www.sony-asia.com/countryselector.html?hpid=countryselector:AsiaPacific.
