Need Help to Restore computer to original factory settings

[ Edited ]

Hello. I need to reset my Sony VAIO to its original factory settings and have the memory cleared so i may give this computer to someone else. I dont want to do a system restore to a point in time, but revert the whole desktop to its original settings. I do not have a Windows Installation Disc or any of the original instruction manual that originally came with my device. If anyone could help i would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Computer Information: Sony VAIO Core 2 Duo 3GB DDR2 500GB HDD Capacity 22" Desktop PC Windows Vista Home Premium Model VGC-LT23E

Re: Need Help to Restore computer to original factory settings

Same question but different model

I have a sony vaio PCG-71913L..  The product name of my laptop is VPCEH36FX.

I am having many problems with my cd/dvd rom and touchpad so this seems like a last resort (although I don't want to reformat my hard drive)

Can anyone please assist?

Thank you.

Re: Need Help to Restore computer to original factory settings

Hi abcRicky1,

I've checked the specifications of your unit and it has the assist button. Please completely shut down your computer. Press the assist button. It will prompt you to Vaio care rescue just choose start recovery wizard and skip rescue. Be mindful that doing this will erase everything inside your computer including your important files. I do advise to backup all your important files.

Re: Need Help to Restore computer to original factory settings

Hi BenV,

Welcome to Sony Community!

The PCG 7151L is not recognized by our system. What is the exact model name of the computer? You can check the bezel of the monitor, usually it starts with VPC or VGN. If you are trying to reformat your computer please follow the steps on this link.

If still doesn't work then you should use a recovery disc to reformat your computer.

Regards,

Jen

Re: Need Help to Restore computer to original factory settings

I have a very similar problem with my VGN-FZ250E laptop. I followed the instructions in link but there is no "Create recovery discs" options in Vaio recovery even when I inserted a blank DVD in the computer from startup. It may be caused by incorrect boot arguments (\mult(0)disc(0)...) but I dont know!

It may be useful to emphasis that the recovery (7 GB) and system drive (almost 100 MB) of my computer did not changed but I installed a Windows 7 manually on my computer.

Thanks
