PCG-71318L - Bad drivers on Sony's support site

Hi folks. I'm reinstalling a VPCEB47GM which has got all partitions deleted (including Recovery). I installed Win 7 Pro SP1 x64 and if I go to the model download page: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VPCEB47GM&LOC=3#/downloadTab every driver shows as for "Windows 7 64 bits" but after downloading and starting installation it shows as "for Windows XP", and installation ends very quickly, without installing anything. I still have exclamation marks on the Device Manager. One is the Ethernet controller... Plus a Base system device, and a third one I can't remember.

Any clues on where the correct drivers are?

Thanks.

Hello Martin.

The US model VPCEB47GM does not have XP driver options.

You stated that you stripped down the partition and reinstalled the drivers.  Did you use the Recovery Software?

or are you installing your own copy of Windows 7?

If you are installing your own copy of windows 7 it is possible  you have missed a step  within the Clean install Checklist

please  follow the below guide  to  install drivers for windows 7.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?template_id=1&info_id=507

If you do not have a set of recovery software  you can purchase the original factory image on a set of DVDs  here:

I know it does not, plus it shows "For Windows 7 64 bits" but when installing all the downloaded files, they show up as "For Windows XP" and they don't install properly. I wouldn't need the set of DVDs if the drivers on the Sony website are OK.
Any clues on why it doesn't send the proper drivers?

Re: PCG-71318L - Bad drivers on Sony's support site

Thank you for your reply

we have verified  the drivers are indeed  for windows 7 64

for this example we will use the first driver on the List,  Audio Driver REDAUD-00225554-0042.EXE

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-matrix.pl?upd_id=5969

if they reflect diffrently on your computer, perhaps you are using compatability mode

Right click on the downloaded driver,  select properties  and under the Compatability tab  Uncheck  Compatability mode.

please review this link for compatability mode options

Re: PCG-71318L - Bad drivers on Sony's support site

Wasn't using Compatibility mode. I was choosing Spanish as the language for the installer, and in spanish it says "for Windows XP" but not if you choose English.

Anyway, installers don't do anything, they say install successful but the exclamation marks for the "Unknown device" (which ended being the Sony Extensions Parser), the Ethernet adapter and the Base System Device remained after installing all the downloaded packages.

I ended extracting the contents of the installer with Uniextract and doing a manual driver installation via Device Manager, like in the old days of Win 98. Problem solved. Thanks!
