SVE151J13L - Memory Upgrade Question

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have a VAIO laptop with the following details :

Model : SVE151J13L

Processor : Intel Core i7 3632QM

RAM : DDR3 8GB @ PC3-12800MHz

Model Name : SVE1513KCXS (From BIOS)

Graphics : Integrated Intel Graphics

I want to upgrade the RAM.

What is the maximum amount of memory supported by this machine ? 16Gb or 32Gb or just 8Gb ?

Please help.

Thanks

Dileep

Re: SVE151J13L - Memory Upgrade Question

So, the Sony marketing specifications say 8GB memory.

https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=SVE1513KCXS&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=manuals#/...

Intel says the Intel Core i7 3632QM supports 32GB meory.

http://ark.intel.com/products/71670/Intel-Core-i7-3632QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz-BGA

On Amazon, you can get a 32GB (2x16GB) kit for DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) 204-Pin SODIMM Memory

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC3-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin/dp/B011ISG132?th=1

And lastly, Crucial says the Sony VAIO SVE1513KCXS supports 16GB memory max.

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Sony/vaio-sve1513kcxs

Laptop memory support has a lot to do with BIOS support over anything else. It would be trial and error if you want to TRY the 32GB memory, I think 16GB is the safe bet since Crucial has information showing it. Also, regarding the Sony marketing specifications, it could be that at the time of the marketing specifications, the 8GB SODIMM memory modules weren't yet available.

Hi, Dileepkrishnan

Thank you for considering Sony Community!

The maximum memory (RAM) your laptop can handle is 8GB. Installing memory with more than the recommended capacity is not guaranteed. Check here for other details: https://docs.sony.com/release//SPECS/SVE1513KCXS_mksp.pdf

For further assistance regarding your concern, please contact the Sony offices/Sony representative offices nearest to your place of residence in Asia Pacific region http://www.sony-asia.com/countryselector.html?hpid=countryselector:AsiaPacific. Re: SVE151J13L - Memory Upgrade Question

Hi,

As you suggested, I was also not very confident about 16+16. So I tried my luck with a single Samsung 8GB module baught from here :

http://www.amazon.in/Samsung-PC3-12800-204-pin-Sodimm-Laptop/dp/B0095ZLMLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=15...

I installed it along with an existing 4Gb module and it was detected properly !

So now I have 12Gb meomory.

I'm going to buy another 8GB module of the same type and replace the 4Gb module with that. Now I'm sure 16GB will be supposrted.

Thanks for your help.
