VAIO VGN-NR110E - how to boot from a USB stick

Need to boot from a USB and can't find the steps anywhere,  Using F8 there is no option for a one time boot which is pretty common on other BIOS.

Any Help is appreciated.

Re: VAIO VGN-NR110E - how to boot from a USB stick

Hello, Dpmaggie.

Sorry you were not able to find this information.  Were you looking in our online knowledgebase?

Tapping F8 on startup with your model will take you to the Windows Advanced Options menu.  To get to BIOS, you need to use the F2 key on boot.

To boot from USB on your model:

  • Shut the PC down completely
  • Begin tapping the F2 key as soon as you press the power button to access BIOS
  • Use the arrow keys to access the Advanced tab in BIOS
  • Select External Drive Boot and change the setting to Enabled
  • Arrow over to the Boot tab and make sure that USB Device is set in the boot order so that it is above the internal hard drive
  • Arrow over to the Exit heading in BIOS and select Save Changes, press the Enter key
  • Select Yes and press Enter to confirm the changes
  • Select Exit Setup and press Enter twice to confirm exit

At this point the laptop will reboot, and after you plug in the USB drive, it should boot to it the next time you reboot the PC.  If not, there is a possibility that the USB flash drive is not properly configured as a bootable device.

Hi matrice05,

It should work the same as your model even thus it's UK model.

Re: VAIO VGN-NR110E - how to boot from a USB stick

I can't figure out what drivers to copy to a disc to reboot my poor VGN-NR110e.

I don't have a Windows installation disc to continue start up "kernel is missing or corrupt".

Sony sent me the Windows Vista Recovery Media for the VGN-NR100E series but apparently it doesn't have drivers. Has a place for a list to choose but never lists anything.

So it asks me to load drivers and I have no idea which ones from the Sony site to include.

Help. Feeling really dumb.

Hi egypt4me!  The drivers and software for your VGN-NR110E can be downloaded from the link below.

I've been to that page but some seem to be updates to previous drivers/software without the previous versions.

Will I need everyone on the page?

After the completing the recovery, you may just need to download  those software that requires an update.  Is there any error message when you're running the update?
