Screen stutters, jumps, cursor locks

I have a Sony Vaio all-in-one desktop, 4 yrs old. Recently the screen began randomly stuttering and the cursor jumps vertically on the right side of the screen only. Sometimes it stops on its own, but usually I must reboot. It's happening more and more frequently. I'm 80 yrs old, on a very limited income and cannot afford a big tech support bill. Can't find the model number; I tried every method recommended by Sony, to no avail. I'm desperate. This PC is my life. Help!

Re: Screen stutters, jumps, cursor locks

As best I can determine, it is:

System Model Sony Corporation SVL24116FXB C107PMZG

System Serial # 27554010-3001844

OS Windows 10 Home (x64) Version 1703 (Build 15063-483)

Installed 6/29/2017 (This must be the last update because I've been running Windows 10 for a long time.)

Hope this helps.

McKenzie

Hi MzMck,

Thank you for providing the correct details. Your laptop model SVL24116FXB has no driver support for Windows 10 operating system. This may cause limitations of the functions and features of the laptop.

Though you may try the following steps that I will provide below. Take note that each step may resolve the issue. Try to replicate first before proceeding to the next step.

1. Power reset the unit
https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37603/p/48903%2C49902%2C55560%2C55601/c/65%2C66/kw...
2. Reset BIOS
https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44078
3. Boot to Safe Mode
https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/43530https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/...

Please observe if the issue exists on Safe Mode. If it behaved then this is a software related issue that can be fixed by identifying what programs or third party applications cause this issue and eventually remove those programs.

Jen

Re: Screen stutters, jumps, cursor locks

None of these seemed to work. I am so sorry.

Re: Screen stutters, jumps, cursor locks

Hi MzMck,

We're sad to hear that the suggestions from the previous post didn't resolve the issue. Was the issue exist when you were in Safe Mode? How about when you were in BIOS page? When did you notice these issues?

Try to perform a System Restore,

https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38134

If it is still the same then do a Full Reformat Recovery

https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36806

If after following the above steps the issue still exists then repair is needed.

Regards,

Jen

Re: Screen stutters, jumps, cursor locks

Thank you for all your suggestions, many of which were tried. Upon taking the unit apart, it was discovered that after five years, the fans were very dusty, causing the CPU and video card to overheat.  It's in the process of being put back together and our hope is that the problem is resolved.
