Ok, try the following:

  1. Delete the folder "NVIDIA" at directory
    C:\
    , if it exists.
  2. Download Nvidia driver 342.01 64bit here.
  3. Start the downloaded driver EXE file to auto-extract the driver to the default directory (c:\NVIDIA\). After the extraction the driver installation wizard won't find suitable hardware. Just close the wizard now.
  4. Download the INF file (nvaci.inf), which i modified according to your hardware ID.*
  5. Put the downloaded INF file into directory
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\342.01\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver
and overwrite the not modified file.
  6. Open the Windows command promt as “Run as Administrator” (right click on cmd.exe) and run
    bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    and
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
    . Then reboot your Vaio!
  7. After the reboot go to
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\342.01\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International
and run setup.exe. During the installation Windows will ask you, if you really want to install the unsigned driver. Click "ok" to proceed.
  8. Open the Windows command promt (cmd.exe) as “Run as Administrator” (right click on cmd.exe) and run
    bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    and
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
    . Reboot and you’re done.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Did you have a rollback to Windows driver today (10/1/16 ? My Wndows 10 installed an auto update and made changes to the display adapter... basically getting rid of your great NIVDIA patch.. I'm trying to retrace the steps but am getting the black screen with whit cursor.

A few weeks ago, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update uninstalled the modified driver and made a rollback to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. I guess the update searched for driver signatures and didn't find one for the modified driver. A simple reinstallation of the modified driver via the known procedure fixed it here.

Please, can you give some more details? I'd like to help, but can't follow your explanation.

Re: Windows 10 installation on a VPCL116FX using a NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 240M DRIVER PROBLEM

Problem Solved.

Vaio VPCZ1 NVidia GeForce 330M (0A2B.905A.104D) Windows 10.

Right click on the Start button > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Double click on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter > Properties > Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software > C:\Windows\Drivers\EXE\Graphics Driver (NVIDIA)\

After rebooting and in case of black screen issues, reboot repeatedly to reach Troubleshoot screen (or Start > Power> Shift + Restart (may be used also from the Sign In screen) > (after rebooting) Choose an option > Troubleshoot) > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

The driver installed from the factory:

NVIDIA_Graphics_Driver_8.16.11.9024_x64

Thanks! It's good to know that the installation of the old Vaio Nvidia driver works manually via the device manager. I guess no one here tried this simple solution before. Smiley Happy

Anyway, i still recommend the installation of the latest Nvidia driver via Darren_CP's workaround because of the following advantages:

  • Windows 10 compatibility confirmed by Nvidia
  • Driver features updated
  • Security issues fixed (Btw., Sony obviously doesn't care much about that. Smiley Frustrated)
  • no "black screen issues" (as far as i know)
