Sony Walkman NW-A35 USB connection in car error

I get 'There are no files available for playback. Please add compatible files to your USB device' error when I connect my Walkman into the car and try to play music on it. All of the files are either .m4a or .mp3 files. Please let me know if this is a known error or something I can do to fix it.

Thanks
