HOT Keys and Battery not recognized

I've just upgraded my VPCSB190X from W7 to W8.

And I've been having several problems;

First of which:

1. FN Hot Keys

The FN + F2,F3 and F4 work but FN1,5,6,7,9,10,12 do not.

I've installed all the available related drivers these keys don't seem to respond...

2. Vaio Battery not recognized

Ever since I have upgraded to W8 and installed the Vaio Upgrade tool I've had a major issue with my battery.

I have a message appearing saying

"The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.

Click "OK" to enter hibernate mode, and remove and resinsert the battery.

See the electronic Vaio User Guide ......                       "

In order to solve the issue temporarily I've disable the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager which removes these error messages.

Downside is that battery is no longer recognized (but computers works without the battery).

I've also tried installing the power management software from VAIO but hasn't done a thing...

Has anyone experience the same issues and have you been able to solve it?

I was really looking forward to the W8, but I'm really close to coming back to W7 as I see no amelioration....

Thanks for the help!

Re: HOT Keys and Battery not recognized

Hello,

Thank you for the post.

For the function keys issue:

Some of the function keys may not work after upgrading to the Windows 8 Operating System. However, you can use the alternate options mentioned below:

Volume can be adjusted using windows controls;

You can control brightness in the graphics properties;

[Windows key]+P has the same function as FN+F7;

The touchpad can be disabled in device manager as an alternative to FN+F1.

If you wish to make the function keys work with the Windows 8 Operating System, you can purchase the VAIO Upgrade Tool which includes all the drivers and utilities from here: https://ebiz3.mentormediacorp.com/sony/windows8/US/landing.aspx?region_id=1&language_id=1&mdl=VPCSB1...

For the battery issue go through all the instructions mentioned here: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1032382

You can download and install the Battery Checker Software from here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCSB190X&upd_id=7868&os_group_id=24
