SD card driver not reading

My Sony vaio is not reading my SD card from my camera. I installed the software updates and it didn't do anything. I checked under devices and drivers and it says the software is working.. but it's not. The SD drive has worked before, so I don't understand why it stopped. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: SD card driver not reading

Hi,

What is the model # of the computer? Refer the following link to locate the model #:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=264

Is the SD Card compatible with the computer?

Have you checked if the same card is working with any other computer?

Try uninstalling then reinstalling the card reader driver.

  1. Press “Windows + R”, type: appwiz.cpl, locate the driver in Programs and features window > Uninstall.
  2. Refer the following link to reinstall the SD Card driver using VAIO Care: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1013169

You may also enter the model # below to check for the available driver and updates:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DRIVER

In case, if the issue persists, perform a system restore to earlier date. System restore will restore the registry and other settings back to the date and time selected. The following link will assist you with this:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1003813

If the issue persists, perform system recovery to factory settings. Performing system recovery will reinstall the pre-installed operating system, applications and the drivers. You can backup all the important data externally. Refer the following link for the detailed steps:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1027232

If the issue still persists, contact Sony service team:

Re: SD card driver not reading

Hello,

I´m having the same problem. My model is VPCSE13FX and I'm trying to read a 4 GB Kingston SD. Other memories did not work some time ago either. I tried downloading the drivers and the updates from the links provided but it still not reading the SD card. I also tried to restore to factory settings but the link is not working. Would this affect any other driver/program that I have installed or does it only change the drivers that are factory installed?

Thank you!

Re: SD card driver not reading

Hi anasellares

Thank you for considering Sony Community!

Reformatting the computer will just reinstall the Operating System back to its original factory settings. It will reload all pre-installed applications and drivers. All third-party applications you installed will be deleted. And all software issue should be resolved. You have the option to do this right away but creating a backup is a must. The links above are combination of U.S support and non-U.S. support links. To isolate the issue, kindly try these steps:

  • Power Cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds
  • Reset BIOS
  • The drivers and software that support your computer are on this link: VPCSE13FX

Take note of the card that your unit can accommodate:

❑ "Memory Stick Duo"
❑ "Memory Stick PRO Duo"
❑ "Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo"

Just in case you are decided to format the unit, please follow the steps here: System Recovery from outside of Windows. (Steps 1,2,9, skip rescue, 16).

For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/

Hope these options help.

Regards,

Vincent
