fn keys and stamina/speed switch still not working

Hello, I have a VAIO SVS13AFXB that I have upgraded to Windows 8 using the clean install. I have installed all of the drivers but still can not get the fn keys and stamina/speed switch to work.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Intel 3000/4000 updated drivers, the nVidia 640M LE drivers, and the VAIO control center but  the fn key and staminia switch do not work. My install method is below:

1. Installed the updated Intel Driver with switch on Stamina

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=SVS13A12FXB&upd_id=8077&os_group_id=24

2.restart

3. installed the updated nVidia 640M LE drivers with switch on Speed

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=SVS13A12FXB&upd_id=8111&os_group_id=24

4. restart

5. Install the VAIO control center

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=SVS13A12FXB&upd_id=7862&os_group_id=24

6. restart

I have tried several times but the fn keys and the stamina switch does not work and it is very frustrating to me. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: fn keys and stamina/speed switch still not working

I have the same problem with a Vaio VPCSB1Z9E. According to the Sony web-site the computer is compatible with Windows 8. I

can download the automatic upgrade file VUforWin8Upg.exe (size approx. 22 MB).

Unfortunately I cannot run this file after a clean install of Win8 (not an upgrade from Win7). A message box appears saying that this software cannot be executed on this computer.

However, after all everything works fine except the STAMINA/SPEED switch and the FN buttons for display brightness (F5/F6) and for Zoom in and out (F9/F10).

I tried to install and uninstall the grafic card drivers from the Sony support page. First the Intel, then the AMD, then Intel again, also with different settings of the STAMINA switch, but without result.

I even removed the battery in order to fully power down the notebook, which was successful in order to get the WIFI and Bluetooth card working, but did not solve the display problems.

The Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device (SFEP) is installed from Win7 and is shown without fault in the device manager under Human Interface Devices.

Any idea what else I could try? Any help is apprecciated.

Re: fn keys and stamina/speed switch still not working

Drywi,

I've a VPCSA21FX and I guess the step is similar than mine.

Read this thread:

Try to install the Sony Shared and Notebook Utilities software (for Windows 7).

I hope it's work.
