Re: VAIO CARE FILE REMOVED BY WINDOWS DEFENDER, VAIO CARE NO LONGER WORKS

Same issue since 3 Feb. Much time wasted before a simple solution found and implemented.

Found WD notice 5 Feb  re false malware malware id and correction in subsequent update of WD. Tough for those of us who had already  acted in the WD detect and delete. Have run WD custom scan with updated WD after the ‘repair’ now implemented and WD is ok with files, Vaio Care (VC) is back to 2 Feb state.

Iolo website now has message re this false malware report on their software. Sony support recommended download VC ( it is not actually available in Sony downloads there for my laptop) or reinstall factory default ( and so lose three years of updates). With the VC files specific to laptop models access to VAIO SW is not always possible so regular backup is essential.

Solution: Instead of reinstall, did a manual restore of VC: compared files in iolo folder in Vaio Care ( in Program FIles / sony /Vaio Care / iolo)) with files in the ‘same’ folder on backup drive.

Looked for missing files and date on all files still in place in iolo on laptop. Not just ioLoToolsTypeLib.dll was missing. There were several files which needed to be copied across ( use admin rights). Check the x64folder for a missing application file.

Restart and Vaio Care working.

Note: important to check date of all iolo folder / subfolder files so this is a restore to last working version. First up could not reactivate Premium Tools . Then had to copy .exe file across as that date showed this was also changed by WD deletion. Restart machine. Vaio CAre and Premium tools ( if previously activated) now working.

VC 8.4.6.05116, installed on 31/10/17 from Vaio Update. You might want to check VUodate for V Recovery 1.1.3.13230.. Kind regards.

Re: VAIO CARE FILE REMOVED BY WINDOWS DEFENDER, VAIO CARE NO LONGER WORKS

Hi, Alfie!

I'm having the same problem that the original poster, Elbriyan, had - Microsoft Security Essentials (on my Windows 7 Sony VAIO device) and Windows Defender (on my Windows 8.1 Sony VAIO device) erroneously quarantined the VAIO Care file as a threat, which - thinking I was being diligent - removed.  That file is no longer there!

I understand there is an .msi installer pack that I can use to uninstall and then re-install VAIO Care?  I looked for the "cd8eef.msi" file mentioned in this thread, but I can not find it on my affected devices.  Will this file work on mine?  Please be aware that my devices are in the United States - from reading this thread, it appears that the other users are our friendly neighbors to the north in Canada.  Can you help?

I would appreciate any help you could give.

Thank you,

Jimmy Dobosk
