Re: Upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 10

Hey interestingstuff,
VGC-RT100Y comes originally with windows vista. Why don't you do a clean install of windows 7 and install the drivers found on Sony Support page below:

Re: Upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 10

Brothers - I have the windows vista ultimate keycode on the back of the machine.  I figured it would be easier to get a disc for windows vista ultimate or a restore disc for this original system setup and then get a windows 7 ultimate upgrade than it would be to get a windows 7 ultimate fresh install disc with an unused keycode.

Also, honestly I'm really interested in the software that originally came with the system (restore) because of all the media features and ports, I figured there might be some software originally provided that isn't on the support page.  (I also had read one place where someone was saying they were having difficulty installing some of the drivers listed.)

Re: Upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 10

Hey,

I understand you want to get the originally shipped windows Vista on your VAIO. Ed Bott from ZDNet has done a litte research about this by surveying 5 PC vendors (Lenovo-Toshiba-Acer-Dell-HP) and asked them about getting a replacement DVD for their windows. Here are his notes:

In all the cases I looked at, you have to supply a serial number, service tag, or some other identifier to indicate that you own the system.
Your replacement media is for the version of Windows that came with your PC. If you bought a PC with Windows Vista and upgraded it, your recovery media will be for the original Vista install. (Sorry.)
Some companies require payment of a nominal fee to cover postage and handling.
Most companies limit the number of replacement discs you can order.

Here's a link for his article:

Thus, you cannot get a recovery disc for your Vista using 3rd party programs. You have to contact the manufacturer which is Sony. Unfortunately, as we all know, Sony sold its VAIO department, so I'm not sure if they'll be helpful. Anyway, contact them and update me with your findings.
